The Lines Are Being Drawn

2011 has indeed been an interesting year to be a Christian.  From the controversial teachings of Rob Bell, to the so called “Arab Spring”, to the ill-advised predictions of Harold Camping, it has been a fascinating year.  And through it all, I believe God is continuing to implement the separation of His sheep from the goats.

The various movements to undermine the authority of the Word of God certainly did not begin in 2011—but it was a year where more definitive lines were being drawn between Christians who believe the Word of God is absolute truth—and Christians who believe his Word could be manipulated for their goals and objectives.  Every denomination of Christianity faces a similar challenge as we move into 2012—a battle between Christians who utilize the Word of God to understand His character and nature—and Christians who utilize selective passages of the bible to promote their beliefs and agendas.

From Christians advancing the homosexual agenda and social justice movements, to television preachers preying on the fears of poor and sick people, manipulation is alive and well in the church.  And with access to the internet and 24/7 Christian television, there is no shortage of information and opinions available to Christians living in a decaying, sinful world.  But an important distinction must be made and remembered—men will always offer opinions—but God offers FACTS—and those facts are contained in His written Word.

As we continue in an era where feelings and emotions are more revered than facts, the rise of false teachers and prophets will continue and accelerate.  We are truly in the age talked about in Second Peter—where teachers will introduce destructive heresies that will lead many astray.  If we rely on our human emotions and feelings we are in serious trouble.  But if we rely on the written Word of God as our sole source of absolute truth we will remain faithful and rewarded.

So let’s really dedicate ourselves to learning the Word of God in 2012.  Take nothing any man says as absolute truth; instead test it against the bible to see if it is true, becoming a “thoughtful Berean”.  Access a well written bible commentary and take the time to dig into the Greek and Hebrew verbiage used when God inspired men to write His Word down.  We live in an era of great deception where Jesus said even the elect would be deceived if possible.  Make 2012 the year when we hide His Word in our hearts, safe from the enemy and people who would manipulate His Word for their own agendas.

I agree and have been thinking about memorizing scripture
    This new year.
Any ideas of a good Bible study or website that leads us through a year of memorizing? I do much better if I am led through rather than try to do on my own.
Thanks! love your show I listen online because I live in Southern Michigan
