In England Christian schools are now being pressured by the government to end any sex education teachings that seem harsh or discriminatory toward homosexuals and transgenders. What started off as a law to make sex education mandatory in schools, but provide protection for religious schools to not violate their religious teachings on sex is now under attack. Compromising with the culture always ends up being a catastrophe.
In our nation the current administration has mandated that all insurance providers and employers offer free contraceptive and abortion drugs to insureds under what is known as ObamaCare. Catholic Bishops are leading the church against this abomination and attack on religious freedom and the administration says they are open to compromise; but be wary because compromise will eventually lead to unconditional surrender of our religious freedom.
A comparison can be drawn to the growing call internationally and within the United States for Israel to surrender lands for peace with its Muslim neighbors. Every time Israel has signed a peace accord with its Muslim neighbors, she has been attacked. These Muslim leaders are taught in the Koran that lying is perfectly acceptable, even encouraged, to gain an advantage on the infidels.
There are times to compromise; and there are times when we should not. Principles should never be open for compromise; and when your opponent has a history of lying and deception, compromise should not be considered.
The Christian Church in America is on the defensive, compromising with the culture at every turn. One day soon we will have compromised ourselves right into a corner where Christianity in this nation is powerless to affect the culture and will become a toothless lion—all roar and no bite.
Should the Word of God and the absolute truth of the bible ever be up for compromise? Well apparently many of our Christian leaders think so as we cede ground to the culture and government at every turn. We seem either ashamed of the gospel or content to eat the scraps that fall off the culture’s table for fear we will starve if we stand up and say “no more”.
We need Christian leaders to take a stand and refuse to compromise with secular culture no more. We are rapidly reaching a point where American Christianity will be a joke to the secular community—a very bad joke as we compromise truth for convenience and acceptance so we can be seen as loving and caring. If love means accepting and endorsing a sinful, decaying culture, and compromising the gospel to be seen as relevant, I want no part of it.
