Religious freedoms: What impact will these elections have?

Today the nation is watching Wisconsin, our home state, where voters are heading to the polls in record numbers to decide whether our governor, Scott Walker, will be recalled.  Here at Stand Up for The Truth we are not a political show, but we do have some thoughts about how we as Christians should react no matter what happens at the end of the day–and in particular the end of this day. Broadening the scope is the national elections and the many issues that divide our nation. Sadly, those issues are also dividing the Church and many believe that what happens in 2012 will have an impact on religious freedoms in our nation.

In our first segment today, William J. Murray  joins us. He is an advocate who speaks out against the persecution of Christianity in America and around the world as chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition, a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C., and is active on issues related to aiding Christians in Islamic and Communist nations and founded ShariaFreeUSA.org. In 1963 America’s most famous atheist, Madeline Murray O’Hair, won the landmark lawsuit filed on behalf of her son William, that effectively banned prayer in public schools. Nearly two decades later, that boy left his tumultuous childhood, grew up and in a miraculous turn of events gave his life over to Jesus Christ.

His book, My Life Without God has just been re-released 50 years after the banning of prayer in public schools, and he talks about God’s grace in this journey from despair to everlasting love.
