What to expect from church leaders

Leadership Buffalo_Team Building Buffalo NY (21)It’s no longer “good enough” to come to church on Sunday mornings, sit in the pew or chair and expect to be spoon fed or entertained for 90 minutes. Sometimes ministry leaders feel that this is what their jobs have become, as they try to proclaim the Gospel and glorify Christ.  Today we are talking about leadership in the Church, and how to best serve our leaders by loving them, supporting them, and challenging them to run this race as well as possible.

Our discussion looks at what we should expect from our leaders, what we definitely should NOT expect, and what we should all be providing those who serve the Church. Joining us today is Jeff Strommen, who ministers to youth not only in his church but through our organization with HopeNet360, a ministry that provides a safe place online and loving support for youth who are struggling.

Mike& Amy, Our pastors are subject to attack in both the physical and spiritual. I trust God with my pastor. Therefore I pray daily for him,his family, any areathat he might come under attack! I pray for the church, the people and building.I have asked The Lord to send guardian angles as protection. I also serve as I can,and am lead. God Bless Dave

If we only would take God at His word and like what He likes and hate what he hates. We have Saul the first King of Israel as the one who would first walk this road. 1 Samuel 15:23-24.

But I think we forget why God gave the people of Israel Saul as king in the first place:
The People rejected God's model for society. A society set around the Elders, the heads of families operating under God's Lordship and His requirements. 1 Samuel 12-13

The model of an elder lead Church is what you see in the early Church. Not lording their authority but acting in mutual submission, lifting up one another, prefering one another, so that none are held in greater esteem than another. See 1 Corinthians 12-14, Romans 12, Titus 2, Ephesians 4 and continuing in the apostles doctrine. See Acts 2, Acts 17, 20:25-35

We seem to have laid these principles aside, and just like Israel the church has turned away from God's directive and sought to establish a figurehead. This happened right away. Paul brings this up how certain men in authority in the local body would refuse to receive Paul or others sent by the other brethren.

We saw the magnitude of evil, which, that can bring in the History of the Roman Catholic Church established under Constantine. Where officially the Written Word the Holy Scriptures were laid aside and replaced by a man's word with the Title of Pope. This same behavior is common in all cults.

When the reformation came it wasn't complete, it just changed the title of the man to Pastor or Reverand. And now we have adopted pHD's. Christ's Headship is still set aside as we desperately cling to the model inherited from the Catholic Church under the authority of the Pope. So nothing really changed. More of the word may have been preached but those principles spelled out in there were set aside and not practiced.

As I listened to Jeff's comments today I was sad for I heard in his voice "I am justified" , "I deserve an easier road", "why should I be hamstringed as all the others with the concerns of life" and not "I could be wrong", "I don't deserve any good", "God says the wages of Sin is death, I deserve death", "we shouldn't think our situation any different than what we see in acts 2". What did we hear, "things are different now, we are better now, they weren't even called Christians then".

Well Here is Acts 2 this is what the Church loked like when it started.

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved .

Oh how far have we fallen.
