When he was alive, college football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant once said, “It’s not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.”
In ministry we often just show up and let it happen. Sometimes it’s because we are busy, or emotionally numb, or without much spiritual energy and hope. But what do we do on the front end to offer the hope of Jesus Christ is so important to our work in the Kingdom of God.
Paul talks about the hopelessness and despair of this world of this in 2 Timothy 3:1-17, but then he says, “You, however…” We are to live differently, work differently and prepare differently. Do we make our work for Him about Him? Are we doing what we need to do to take what we’ve been given, including how we’ve been fed by other Godly leaders, and flow it out to others who need to be fed?
