Prepared for chaos?

In these times we find ourselves in, even the secularists know that something is “up.” Economists are warning us to get ready for a complete collapse–that it’s not a matter of if, but when our economy goes belly up. Unemployment and underemployment is the new normal for many of us, and the spiritual and moral decline in our nation is plummeting, the proof being in the daily barrage of headlines.

A lot of folks listening today might think this is negative thinking, or that we’re fear mongering. A lot of others are nodding your heads right now, acknowledging that we need to be prepared for what the world — and of course the watchmen — have been trying to tell us. The good news is that Jesus Himself promises us eternal life and hope in Him. The bad news is that He also promised persecution would come, and it’s not going to be pretty.

Are you ready? What does being prepared look like for you?

    In the storm

Realize in this that Christ Jesus put these men in the boat.
Realize Christ Jesus commands the storm. He is soverign over all creation
Realize the application: Keep your eyes on Jesus and do what He says to do and you will be fine.
Realize the Savior: Though we may take our eyes off Jesus, He abides faithfull and saves us when we cry out in our desperation.
Realize salvation: In Christ Jesus alone is a secure harbor found.

Matthew 14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled , saying , It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying , Be of good cheer ; it is I; be not afraid . 28 And Peter answered him and said , Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said , Come . And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid ; and beginning to sink , he cried , saying , Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt ? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased . 33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying , Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Help us Lord realize the Sure Hope we have in you. To Christ Jesus be all glory honor and praise.

    Rejoice the end is coming!

Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage , and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder , and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh : the Lord shall have them in derision . 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed , ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry , and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

  3. The fact is the US economy could fall flat at any moment. The stock market is being propped up by quantitative easing ad nauseous and we still face the baby boomer retirement, the student debt bubble, the fiscal cliff, policy paralysis in Washington, State and municipal debt bombs, the possible impacts of a Middle East conflict on oil prices, and the coming slow down of China. Never has our own economic future been more precarious, and perhaps never have more prepared for trouble or more ignored it. And did I mention I understand biblical prophecy and how the times are reflecting it?

Christ Jesus will carry us through. Enter the question of wisdom. The Bible says a prudent man sees evil coming and turns aside from it. About seven years ago I first became aware of these issues through websites like peakoil.com, the energy bulletin, and others. I was struggling in my faith at the time and the realization of what 'could' be coming hit me very hard. As time went by by God's grace my faith was renewed and much of the trepedation subsided but I still felt it would be wise for myself and my family to act upon what we knew. Based on that I put into place a multi-layered plan for a new future, a plan we believe the Lord encouraged us to follow. That is how the concept for Littlehouse Farm was born.

Having a degree in environmental science, a thorough knowledge of the Bible, and the opportunity to buy our first house, we were looking for a modest home on three to five acres where we could implement some of the ideas of men like John Seymour and Elliot Coleman. This makes sense in that small scale at has a future whether the economy crashes or not. I found that I love the soft-science of the market garden rotation, and by God's grace found a place with an ideal location, not only for market gardening but for raising children and experiencing all the good things that Green
Bay and Door County has to offer.

In year two we grew over five hundred pounds of food, raised a flock of chickens, and are ready to ramp up to producing for the local farmers markets next year. If the rubber meets the road, at least we have attempted to be prudent. If the rubber never meets the road we have a brught future in a land we love among people we respect.

As for the unknowns, and the unknown unknowns, as always we need to trust the Lord for that. But I highly encourage the churches to encourage their own at contingent and begin to offer small scale farmers markets. You can grow great food and strengthen community all at once and the knowledge being banked could come in handy if we are staring down the barrel of the end-times.

    Peace and joy in Him,
