If you wish to be equipped as a Christian, you need to have your Bible and your eyes wide open. In other words, 1. know the Word. 2. understand the strategy waged by the so-called “Progressive Christian” movement that is working overtime to cast doubt on (or downright attack) the Bible’s teachings. The following will help you with No. 2.
“Fundamental Christianity has so let the air out of the room. They get so much air time, it’s almost scary,” intones Matthew Fox, one progressive thought leader in a video trying to encapsulate the need for the Progressive Christianity movement. Sprung from the Emergent, post-modern era, PC is the latest manifestation of what many Bible-believing Christians say is a move away from absolute truth.
If you’re up to it, gird your loins and check out this video of those voices strategically and intentionally coaching Christians to think about their faith in a whole new, different and exciting way that fits better with the Third Millennium than the old way of thinking that what God said is timeless:
This movement isn’t for those of us who believe that all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work, as it states plainly in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
Instead, Progressive Christianity is for “thinking Christians” who “understand that the Bible didn’t fall out of heaven,” but instead is a group of man-made writings that may or may not point to the god of your understanding and the Jesus of your agenda. There are many progressive groups in this camp, all claiming some flavor or another of believing in a Jesus. The LIVING THE QUESTION organization produced this video, and their site even has a searchable feature so that you can find a PC discussion group (the site boasts to have 6,000 worldwide) near your town.
Over at the PCA (Progressive Christianity Alliance), a group that calls itself a “Mustard Seed Revolution of Grace, Love and Inclusion,” their website lists these “allies” and partners who are working toward changing Christianity as we know it:
Below is a listing of some of our friends in ministry and and organizations that our members and clergy are involved with. While there is much diversity in these listings; we all hold a common desire to serve God and love one another in a visible and tangible way; although our focuses differ.
