Pope Francis: All go to Heaven, even atheists

popeOh, yes he did. In perhaps one of the most blatant and blasphemous statements in history (story below), Pope Francis has declared that everyone – including atheists – are redeemed through Jesus. Did Jesus die for the sins of the world? Indeed He did. But if you read carefully, the works-righteousness becomes apparent for salvation; that what saves you isn’t believing and trusting in Christ alone for His atonement for our sins; it’s your good works. Your deeds. Why is he saying these things? Perhaps it’s because he wants world peace. And unity. One-ness.

Here is what the Huffington Post reported:

Pope Francis Says Atheists Who Do Good Are Redeemed, Not Just Catholics

Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists.

During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of “doing good” as a principle that unites all humanity, and a “culture of encounter” to support peace.

Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Francis explained how upset Jesus’ disciples were that someone outside their group was doing good, according to a report from Vatican Radio.

“They complain,” the Pope said in his homily, because they say, “If he is not one of us, he cannot do good. If he is not of our party, he cannot do good.” And Jesus corrects them: “Do not hinder him, he says, let him do good.” The disciples, Pope Francis explains, “were a little intolerant,” closed off by the idea of possessing the truth, convinced that “those who do not have the truth, cannot do good.” “This was wrong . . . Jesus broadens the horizon.” Pope Francis said, “The root of this possibility of doing good – that we all have – is in creation”

Pope Francis went further in his sermon to say:

“The Lord created us in His image and likeness, and we are the image of the Lord, and He does good and all of us have this commandment at heart: do good and do not do evil. All of us. ‘But, Father, this is not Catholic! He cannot do good.’ Yes, he can… “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone!”.. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”

Responding to the leader of the Roman Catholic church’s homily, Father James Martin, S.J. wrote in an email to The Huffington Post:

“Pope Francis is saying, more clearly than ever before, that Christ offered himself as a sacrifice for everyone. That’s always been a Christian belief. You can find St. Paul saying in the First Letter to Timothy that Jesus gave himself as a “ransom for all.” But rarely do you hear it said by Catholics so forcefully, and with such evident joy. And in this era of religious controversies, it’s a timely reminder that God cannot be confined to our narrow categories.”

Of course, not all Christians believe that those who don’t believe will be redeemed, and the Pope’s words may spark memories of the deep divisions from the Protestant reformation over the belief in redemption through grace versus redemption through works.

The pope’s comment has also struck a chord on Reddit, where it is the second most-shared piece.

More from Reuters:

Atheists should be seen as good people if they do good, Pope Francis said on Wednesday in his latest urging that people of all religions – or no religion – work together.

The leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics made his comments in the homily of his morning Mass in his residence, a daily event where he speaks without prepared comments.

He told the story of a Catholic who asked a priest if even atheists had been redeemed by Jesus.

“Even them, everyone,” the pope answered, according to Vatican Radio. “We all have the duty to do good,” he said.

“Just do good and we’ll find a meeting point,” the pope said in a hypothetical conversation in which someone told a priest: “But I don’t believe. I’m an atheist.”

Francis’s reaching out to atheists and people who belong to no religion is a marked contrast to the attitude of former Pope Benedict, who sometimes left non-Catholics feeling that he saw them as second-class believers.

Blasphemy. He has no idea who Jesus of the bible is. This is completely a false doctrine and one that will lead people right to Hell.

I agree with Bambi, and any1 else who agrees that this is straight Blasphemy. As it says in Hebrews 9:27 says, its given to man once to die, and then the Judgment. Those who reject Christ will be Judged by God & utterly condemned in Hell forever. But those who repent & place their complete trust in The Lord Jesus Christ, will spend eternity in Heaven forever. Its impossible for some1 to reject The Gospel, and still go to Heaven. Jesus is head of His Church, not the pope. God's Word is the final authority, "Let God be true, & every man a Liar", Romans3:4.

If an Atheist doesn't believe in the Holy Spirit, let alone The Holy Trinity, 3 Persons, One God, Then isn't that the only sin that will never be forgiven? A sin against The Holy Spirit.

Hardly, who says you have to believe in three persons, One God. Is it that God is the Son, and the Son is God, and God is the Holy Spirit and that Jesus is the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit is Jesus and God. All this is a progression from Pagan Myths. And who ever heard of God impregnating a human woman? That is patently ridiculous. Why haven't more women been impregnated by God. With Constantine, the first Roman Emperor, all these concepts were conceived and made into Dogma. The literal interpretations of the Bible, don't look beneath to see the real meanings of Biblical text.

        February 12, 2014 at 10:52 PM
        • God in Three persons: Jesus is God, The Father is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. But Jesus is NOT the Holy Spirit, and the Father is Not Jesus. (That would be the Modalism heresy which was condemned centuries ago.)

I posted the HuffPost article on FB this morning and someone sent me this link written by a Catholic on Patheos…

    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/markshea/2013/05/fri

This person quotes the catechism that says all are redeemed. It talks about Matthew 18 in the parable of the wandering sheep…making it out that Jesus was including all humanity…

John MacArthur says in his sermon called The Care For Gods Children Matthew 18:10-14 says: "It is talking about the childlike believer, the one who knows Jesus Christ, who has come as a child, who is the child of God; and the little child is simply an analogy to define the nature of one who follows God, who loves the Lord Jesus Christ. So it's talking about Christians under the analogy of little children."

So instead of applying this scripture to believers they apply it to all humanity saying that all are children of God. Am I understanding that correctly?

    May 23, 2013 at 10:16 AM
    • Except that we are not all children of God. In the very first few lines of the Book of John, it says we are children by adoption into Christ's Kingdom when we are born again, and not by normal birth. Jesus died that all might be saved, but we are saved only by being born again of the Holy Spirit through faith. The Pope says we are saved by our good works, which is false teaching that will (and has) lead millions to Hell.

Right, Ephesians 2 covers this completely as well and covers works… I'm sure they twist it too.

I wish my friend (who posted the Patheos blog post to me) would study God's word and learn what the Bible says. She posted it in a way of trying to prove the Pope was right in what he said. It breaks my heart. I really don't know what else to say to her. I have shared the truth with her on many different occasions providing scripture through all of it and she doesn't listen. I haven't said anything to her pertaining to this post because in a way I feel like I am wasting my time with back and forth FB comments since she really isn't looking to understand or study God's word to see if what I am saying is true (Acts 17:11). It seems to me she has degraded to just trolling my posts. :( I could point out the fallacies behind the pathoes blog to her and break it down…I just don't know that it would help anything.

        May 24, 2013 at 4:25 AM
        • It probably would not help, Jamie. All you can do at this point is to keep standing for truth and let God do the rest. It sure is discouraging though, isn't it?

          May 24, 2013 at 7:05 AM
        • One thing is for sure. There is only ONE way to heaven. Jesus said so Himself. "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but through Me" (John 14:6)

Amy, were you the author of this post? If so, you have misrepresented the teachings of salvation by the Catholic Church. I'm wondering if it is at all possible that you could dial down the inflammatory rhetoric and hear me out…if not, I won't exert much effort here because I don't want a fruitless discussion.

My point is this, you are misrepresenting the Pope's view or the Catholic Church's teaching on salvation. It is always by grace, and always has been by grace. In receiving the grace of God, we receive true freedom to respond with good works. Ephesians 2:10 is clear about that. But there are key Church councils that have emphasized over and again the necessity of grace. The Second Synod of Orange of 529 A.D. is a great resource when the Church had to battle the heresy of Pelagianism, a false doctrine that denies the necessity for the grace of God and that we can work the righteousness to attain heaven. For anyone who makes the Church a proponent of this heresy has not read what the Church actually teaches. To read the canons of Orange, here's a link: http://www.crivoice.org/creedorange.html; Also, there's the Sixth Session of the Council of Trent that repeats the canons of the Second Synod of Orange. You may access it here: http://www.ccel.org/ccel/schaff/creeds2.v.i.i.iv….

Hopefully, we can continue this discussion. If you want to talk about what the average Catholic may think, that is an entirely different topic. LOL!

This is what i hear from Catholics, and why they need the gospel proclaimed to them as much as most 'christians' who hold the same "i'm a good person and that's why i get into heaven.'

Wake up everyone! The people around us are PERISHING and will spend eternity in hell! Let's get out there and tell them about the God that came down to pay for our sins, and by faith and trust in him and what he did ALONE through the grace of God are we saved!

      HERE IS a peace of information most Christians and Catholics might not know;

Our LORD Christ is our father of us all…he created everything inside his MIND, ; you me, angels, powers are principalities

He loves us so much that he will do anything to bring us back to him by any means
we are HIS making…this includes hindu, muslims, buddhist, christians, catholics etc etc

if someone never heard of Christ Jesus or even he heard of him and has grown up in his religion and is good carrying LOVING person…guess WHAT? YES HE goes to 3rd Heaven where Lord is..

actually there are many ppl who dont have any religion and they are most loving kind ppl
so no one should boast about how good his-her religion is and judging others
dont judge so you wont be judge

Again, Chris, where do you get this information you speaking with such confidence? Someone told you these things …they sound good to you….so therefore it must be true? Please read Romans, chapter one. Your mind has been blinded by the god of this world. You are believing in a false god who cannot save you….a god of your own making who will just overlook sin and save everyone. God sent His Son to die for sinners so they can be made right with God. Yet you say everyone goes to heaven where God is….even if they reject His Son? That doesn't make any sense and demeans Christ's sacrifice. Why did God go to all that trouble for us, if we can just get to heaven another way? Jesus is the ONLY way. The Bible says the road to heaven is the narrow way and few find it. But wide is the road to destruction and many are on that road. Please carefully consider these things. This is too important to be wrong. I say this in love and concern for your soul.

Rick Warren is another one who is focused on one world order for the church. People must study the Word for themselves to learn the truth about such things.

Oh John, how can you, a Christian, give yourself so much power that you ask us all to condemn our Pope? To condemn him or anyone who asks for good to come together? The power to do anything like that does not lie with us…..it belongs to God. God is THE good! As brothers and sisters in Christ, can we all not come together to do good;.meet ALL who do good, and hope we find more good in this world filled with ill will toward one another. Let His love shine out from us…….please?

Pope Francis only said to all people: Be good and we will meet there. What is good?? Christ is good; showed and told us what is good and asked that we follow Him; He that IS the good!! The Pope also added that God will save if He wants to………..None of us know exactly how each individual shall be judged, or could we say, welcomed or rejected by God……………….We will know when we are there each on our own. In the meantime…………let us find and do good with and for one another. Let us meet there and leave the rest in trust in our Lord.

        Chris,

I encourage you to seek to rightly understand the term 'judge' which is the most misused word in all of the Bible. Those who are born again by God are called to rightly judge – For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 1 Cor. 5:12

Loving one another does NOT mean embracing false teachers like the Pope. Your view leans heavily towards ecumenism, which is like a melting pot of all kinds of false beliefs uniting for the sake of 'love'. Christ does not call us to love false teaching, we are to expose it for what it is. The Apostle Paul commands this from Ephesians 5:11, " Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them."

Believing on the Lord Jesus is not a mere verbal profession, it is a way of life. It is not brought about by your own doing, only God can change the heart of man. You must be born again, by God. Trusting in Christ means you believe He will be with you and guide you through, no matter what happens. If you lose all you have, you still trust Jesus; if you are imprisoned, you still trust Him; if you are facing martyrdom, you still love Him and trust in Him. Sadly, in America, believing on Christ consists of nothing more than a flippant acknowledgement with NO understanding of what it truly means to follow Christ, and to 'count the cost'. Heed the warning found in God's word, examine yourself to see if you truly are 'in Christ'. Does Christ rule and reign supremely in your heart? Is He your first love, over everyone else, including yourself? If you say 'yes', does your life really reflect that? Do you despise the world – the wealth, the materialism, the demonic influences of it in the entertainment industry – is it all detestable to you? Do you despise the sins you once cherished? Are you walking in obedience to His word, striving for holiness and desiring to be a living sacrifice; to be used by Christ however He sees fit, even if that means losing all your earthly comforts? Examine your heart, look into the word…and pray.

Revelation 20:11-15 (New King James Version NKJV)

    The Great White Throne Judgment

11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Yes, we are to do good works…..

Ephesians 2:8-10 – For it is by grace you have been saved through faith; and this not from yourselves: it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

    May 24, 2013 at 7:00 AM
    • Yes – we are to do good works. Christians will not be judged on sin but on the merits of the works they did for the Lord. We are already saved and heading for heaven the moment we ask Jesus to be our Savior. However, we are not to depend on those works to take us to heaven. As the Scripture says, "Not by works that any man should boast."

        Rev. Suzanne,

While I commend your quoting God's word, I must confront your claiming to be a reverend/pastor. The word of God clearly speaks out against women being teachers in the Apostle Paul's epistle to Timothy, 'But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.' 1 Timothy 2:12
Allow me to share commentary on this text from Matthew Henry, 'According to Paul, women must be learners, and are not allowed to be public teachers in the church; for teaching is an office of authority, and the woman must not usurp authority over the man, but is to be in silence. But, notwithstanding this prohibition, good women may and ought to teach their children at home the principles of religion. Timothy from a child had known the holy scriptures; and who should teach him but his mother and grandmother?'
John Gill says the same thing, 'but then women are not to teach in the church; for that is an act of power and authority, and supposes the persons that teach to be of a superior degree, and in a superior office, and to have superior abilities to those who are taught by them.'

When you get a chance, I encourage you to listen to John MacArthur's teaching on this at http://youtu.be/uolWyghsHxw

If what you say is true then why are you a Rev? Did you become a minister to stay silent in the church, or is there a double take on it?
There was a lot of transformations going on when Paul said this back in those times, but in the Bible there were many women who ministered and had strong leadership.
In church's there are many women who teach, and many teach children and this is ministry also. However, if this is the only place where they can speak I think it is an insult to them. Sarah, Ruth, are two who were very powerful in ministry back then. What about the woman who washed Jesus feet? This was a ministry from a woman that many would only dream of.

          July 28, 2013 at 9:32 AM
          • Rose Vosburgh #

The Bible never says women cannot minister…but it specifically says they are not to lead men in the church or in the home. Yes, Ruth and Sarah were both 'powerful in ministry' but that was the byproduct of their obedience to God in their attitude of submission to the men God placed over them.

        • James #

Rev Suzanne, I must apologize as I put a comment in your direction in regards of the comment by Lyn over women not to minister.
I believe there are many women who are more qualified than men in some cases to teach and preach, and both men and women all are learning and in need of it. In order for a man to teach women he must learn also, and I have learnt so much from women in leadership that some men would never be qualified to do.

I can't think of the text right now where Paul was trying to teach and told the women to keep silent and ask questions at home has been taken out of context.
At this time when Paul spoke of this is when the church was in it's beginning of the new covenant. Up until this time they were under Jewish laws and etc in their religion.
When Paul was teaching this the women were sitting on one side of the church and men on the other, and the women started shouting over to their husband asking them what Paul was meaning, and then Paul made the statement to keep women silent as he couldn't teach this new covenant. Cause at this time women were not educated and was not able to get educated unless if they were in a middle class to upper class levels of society. But under the New Covenant women had more recognition.
For example, there were many PROPHETESS IN THE BIBLE, and to be a prophetess you had to be a woman, and this is under teaching also.
The woman at the well told everyone to come and see Jesus, and this is a great leader and minister to share about Him.
Mary Magneline was the first to carry the message about the resurrection of Jesus. Now, if they were not to preach and etc, they were in sin doing this according to religion. A Christian is not a religion, but a relationship and I believe God can choose anyone He wants to preach who are in a relationship with Him.
Furthermore, if women are not to teach why are many teaching kids in church, a very important ministry and in this kids need the best to teach them and I believe that women are the best you can have.

Certainly women may teach other women and also children. In fact, some women are very gifted teachers. But the Bible distinctly says that women are not to teach men or be in positions of leadership over men. Does that mean men can't ever learn anything from women? No. But in the church there is a proper order that God instituted. Men are to be in the positions of leadership and women are to be under them in a submissive attitude…just as the pattern of women submitting to their husbands in marriage..

There is 1Timothy 2:12 ,as Lyn already referenced, and then if you read on to verses 13-14:

"For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety."

Then we continue on into Chapter 3 of 1 Tim:

"This is a true saying, if a MAN desire the office of bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife…" On down in verse 12 it says, "Let the deacons be be the husbands of one wife..

The Word of God does not change to keep up with the times. God laid down a pattern we are to follow. We don't just pick and choose some verses and ignore others we don't like or ones we feel aren't suited to our 'modern' world. (And we are talking about the Church here and the New Testament so don't bring up Old Testament rules that were meant only for the Jewish nation and ask why we no longer obey those.) Eve was the one who sinned first. God laid out what part of the consequence for her would be in Genesis 2:16: "And thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." Women…yes…even today in our modern times…need to submit to their husbands in the home and to the men in leadership in the Church. It was the foundation laid back in Genesis (for good reason!) and which is reaffirmed and clarified as to it application to the New Testament Church in 1 Tim 2.

We need more strong men of God take on the responsibility of leadership roles in the Church rather than sitting back and letting the women lead…even celebrating this as being something good for the Church. In reality, it is just another sign of the shift away from the Bible and trend toward apostacy that is overcoming the end times Church.

John 3:16 is very clear as is what Paul wrote the Corinthians below:
KJV 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said , I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate , saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

If you are an atheist why are you coming to read material in these sites if you don't believe in it?
You can choose to believe what you want, but you will get one spiritual awakening when you stand before God on judgment day. I would never want to be in hell and I pray you don't end up there either, but it is our choosing to where we want to camp out when we leave this world.
I will be praying for you as I think you are looking for something or you would not be coming into these sites and reading them. People who don't believe in something don't waste their time searching out sites as such. If I were you, and believing the way you do, I would want to keep searching out things that would support and build you up rather than reading articles like this. Furthermore, what is so wrong with people believing in Jesus Christ? He died on the cross for you to.

If the only 'christians' you have encountered are 'religious people' then you probably DO have a poor opinion of God and of what heaven will be like. Many people are 'religious' and claim to be Christians, but in reality they do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They have never been born again by surrendering their lives to Christ. True Christians know they are nothing but poor wretches who have been saved by God's grace. They know their good works/deeds and religious rituals are nothing but rubbish to God and can do nothing to gain them an eternal home in heaven. True Christians understand that salvation is a gift they could never deserve or earn. It is free to each one who admits he is a sinner, repents, and trusts only in Christ. No room for pride or boasting or lording it over others. We are all in the same boat…sinful, wretched and without hope if we are without Christ.

Don't judge God and make decisions about your eternity by what you observe in 'religious people'. Get to know God for yourself. Read the Bible and seek Him. If you seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him.

I think it is time that Catholics, who get taken in by one man's ideas, get a Bible and start reading and studying it to find the real truth of what Christ has taught. Popes, priest, ministers, and etc. are not above the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are only a man and nothing more.
This pains me knowing that someone of this stature can lie to the people and they fall for it.
The Bible teaches we are to be born again to be saved, baptism is not going to get anyone into heaven but being born again will.
The Bible also teaches that it is not by works that gets us into heaven. It does have it's place but it doesn't do it. Hitler did good also, but was one of the most evil men of all time who killed many many innocent men, women and children.
This pope is doing spiritual homicide on vulnerable and gullible people, which has an eternal impact on their souls. The Bible also teaches about false teaches in the last days, and he is one no different than Rick Warren's teachings.
This pains me deeply in how anyone can lead many astray. Listen Catholics, start studying the Bible for yourself and you will learn what the scripture says and not just take someone's word in what they say. Don't be in fear of opening it up as it is a book that holds so much love in it for you and ever person who walks on this earth.

    May 25, 2013 at 3:10 PM
  15. Whatever will the Pope say next? I am so glad to see so many people here making the Rick Warren connection. Same false gospel. Same false Jesus. Same false spirit. The spirit of antichrist is well and truly at work. Keep speaking out against these wolves…to anyone who will listen! Blessings to all of you who love the Lord, know your Scriptures, and keep yourselves informed of the false teachings around so you can warn others.

catholicism is not Christianity and it never been Christianity. It is a pagan, idol worshiping "Religion". Therefore, it should not ever be called Christianity or, referred to as the Church of God. In the same way I am offended when the words Christion and Religion are used in the same sentence. I am not religious and Christianity is not a Religion, we simply love God, believe in Jesus Christ as our saviour, and follow His true teachings. How utterly tragic it is when a man of his age and position, with absolutely no idea of scripture and truth, can freely spread such lies within what they call a Religion. Proof of the times we are living in I suppose. A thousand years ago, this same man, would have burned you at the stake for saying that very thing. These heathen, catholic leaders have a lot to answer for.

In my eyes heaven and hell does not even need to be known or believed in. Do you want people to believe in god out of fear? Or will you be judged by your actions? I for one believe that ones actions make you a good person and not ones religion. Do you believe in your religion out of fear for going to hell, do you really need such a guideline to do good?

There is a hell first of all, and good works won't help you Sir!! no matter how hard you try. It doesn't matter if one believes in heaven or hell or not..God is not concerned with whether you believe it or not,He leaves that up to you, but about how you except the word of God, what you do with it through faith through Christ Jesus. You are right about one thing here, you will be judged by your actions Gal 6:7 He will not be mocked, do not be deceived, for whatever a man sows he will also reap, he who sows to the flesh will reap corruption of the flesh, but he who sows unto the Spirit will of the Spirit reap life eternally. Every word uttered out of your mouth, every man, woman, boy, and girl will be held accountable says Matt 12:37. For by your own words you will be either justified or condemned. I hope you get a Bible and ask the Lord Jesus into your heart and become your Savior, without Him you have not a chance. Some mighty good folks are going to hell too. Please don't end up being one of them. The word of God does say in Prov 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Abel,

Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ is not something Christians do as a result of fear, it is a gift from God {Ephesians 2:8-9} upon hearing the good news of what Christ has done, making atonement for sin. All who reject Christ and live out their time on this earth in rebellion to the word of God will be judged on that final Day according to their works, according to the word of the Lord {Romans 2:6, Romans 14:12, 1 Peter 4:5, Jude 1:15}.

Those who do not believe in Jesus Christ, who do not trust in his death, burial, and resurrection as atonement for all their sins, will not enter into the kingdom of God. To say otherwise is indeed blasphemous, because God is holy and nothing defiled or unholy shall enter His kingdom. The righteous life the Son of God lived while on earth is imputed to all who believe, which is something the Roman Catholic Church denies, thus this ridiculous statement by the Pope.

You say one's actions makes you a good person, so if someone steals all your money, then gives some of it to charity, are they a good person?
Here is what the God of the Bible says about every person ever born, 'Jehovah looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, That did seek after God. They are all gone aside; they are together become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one.' Psalm 14
What about our self-professed good deeds, are they pleasing to a holy God? ' For we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.' Isaiah 64:6
No matter how good we think we are, we cannot please God, who is perfectly holy. We cannot be good consistently, we cannot keep His law because we are sinful. Everyone is born a sinner and loves their sin. All love darkness more than light. The perfect standard set by God could never be met by sinful man, so God's own Son came here to fulfill God's demand for satisfying His law perfectly, known as Christ's active obedience. Trying to be good is NOT a guideline to being accepted by Almighty God, for if it were, all fall short. Believing in and trusting completely in what Jesus Christ, God's own Son, has done to make atonement for sin and satisfy God's wrath at sin is what is needed. Christ died to save sinners, to give them eternal life. All will go to the grave, all of mankind is appointed to die, then face judgment by their Maker {Hebrews 9:27}. Only those who trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, will have all their sins forgiven, because all their sins were laid upon the Son of God on the cross. He became a sin offering for all God's people, He bore their sins and satisfied the wrath of God. This is what followers of Christ believe and Christ is the One we trust fully in. Knowing the terror of the Lord, I urge you to forsake your sins, and believe on the Lord Jesus. God is holy and righteous and He will avenge His holiness against all who break His law. He would not be God if He did not uphold His law; He would not be righteous if He did not punish those who rebel against His word. Getting back to my example, if someone took all your money, would you seek justice? Wouldn't you want them punished for breaking the law and taking what was yours and did not belong to them? Would you demand the judge bring about justice and punish the person who wronged you?

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

"Salvation – or at least a shorter stay in Purgatory – might now be only a tweet away with news that Pope Francis is to offer “indulgences” – remissions for temporary punishment – to the faithful who follow him on the social media site.

Around 1.5 million are expected to flock to Rio de Janeiro to celebrate World Youth Day with the Argentine pontiff later this month. But for those who can’t make it to Brazil, forgiveness may be available to contrite sinners who follow Francis’s progress via their TV screen or social networks."

    Dear SUFTT,

Then why do you continue to lie about the Catholic faith and what she teaches? Answer, because you never ACTUALLY knew – nor know – what the Catholic Church teaches.

Here's a perfect example. In Catholic teaching – I'm sure you're aware – there is a distinction between Salvation and Redemption.

The distinction is shown in John 3:17. Jesus died for the sins of the whole world. That's redemption. Redemption is a part of Salvation but can. Belief in Our Lord Jesus Christ is Salvation.

The Holy Father was saying that Christ's redemption (dieing for our sins) was even for atheists. The "we will meet you there" was on the lines of "meet them where they are at" not meeting them in heaven.

Most Fundamentalists believe the same distinction but just use different phrases. How many times have I heard "Jesus died for your sins". You're talking about redemption. Then the Fundamentalist will say something like "Give your whole life over to Jesus". That's Salvation.

One is part of the other but you can make a distinction.

SUFTT, being "raised Catholic" or having attended a Catholic church / school means nothing, much less that you know the deep details of the Catholic Faith. This is why I asked for, and received, the promises from Mike that he would check with authentic Catholic sources before reporting on a teaching of the Catholic Church.

Do you not think it is wise to look into whether or not something is just a big misunderstanding or worse, an untruth before you report it?

God Bless you in your Journey to Christ,
    Nate

    • Our journey "to" Christ, Nate? Are you saying that you are there and that we haven't arrived yet? That would be pretty presumptuous.

Let me ask you this: If you were to leave the Roman Catholic system and attend a protestant church, would you still be saved, or would you lose your salvation?

Jesus died for me while I was still a sinner and his enemy. Jesus paid the price in full for my redemption while I was still in bondage.

Jesus was God before I believed. Jesus was Redeemer before I believed. Jesus was Savior before I believed.

Now that I have confessed with my mouth Jesus is Lord and now that I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, Jesus remains God, Redeemer, and Savior. He has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8.

I don't pray for my lost neighbors and lost family members to get "saved". I pray that their eyes be open and that they receive the salvation God has already provided through Jesus Christ.

The Bible teaches something radically different from this erroneous, limited redemption doctrine presented by this blog.

Hebrews 7:27 He (Jesus) has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this ONCE FOR ALL when he offered up himself.

Hebrews 9:11-12 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered ONCE FOR ALL into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

1 John 2:1-2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Jesus secured eternal redemption ONCE FOR ALL!

It is good to do good. It is good to help one another. And if necessary it is good to even offer your life as a sacrifice to benefit others.

God the Creator of us all, has placed upon man a higher standard, than just doing good. He has called upon man to be perfect, without any wrong doing in his life. The first man and woman were created perfect, without any wrong. But they chose to disobey God and to obey God's wicked enemy, Satan. The corruption of their disobedience rests upon all mankind.

Regardless of our best efforts, man is no longer good enough to meet God's standard. But God loves us. Therefore, He sent Jesus a man born of His own Spirit and of a virgin woman. This Jesus was born perfect. He lived a perfect life. Jesus chose to obey God and not follow Satan. Therefore Satan inspired the people of his time to kill Jesus. They had no right to kill Jesus. Therefore God accepted the death of Jesus as the full payment for the disobedience and wrong doing of all mankind. As proof of this acceptance God raised Jesus from the dead after 3 days. He was witnessed by many after his resurrection and then ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God.

If Jesus paid for the debt of mankind's wrong doing, then do all people go to heaven? No. As an individual you still have the choice to make between God and Satan. You must say that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. Just doing good is not enough. You must call upon the name of the Lord to go to heaven.

Romans 10:9-13 "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

An individual has a choice. They must choose to received

Only those that choose to believe that God has provided for the payment

@ Dontcallmeback, There is no need to be confused about the word of God, He has made it so easy to understand. Look, with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are promised eternal life, without HIm you will face a burning hell, you will be condemned Jn 3;36. You must believe in Jesus Christ and His finsihed works on the cross. See how simple that is. Jehovah God came through His Son to actually save us from His wrath Rom 1:18 says The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness, and unrighteousness of men who suppresses the truth in unrighteousness. Vs 20 Man will have no excuses on the day of judgment. There are no works tha any of us can do and achieve no matter how well or perfect they turn out. It's not good enough to get to God. Were that the case Jesus wouldn't ve had to die the horrible death for our sins. We can not pay for our sins…It took Jesus to become the perfect sacrifice for the propitiation of our unrighteousness, before a Holy God. If you are trying to get to God by works in your country, I may be wrong as to just how many gods you have to call on (3000) if I'm remembering correctly, that's one two many. And the fact they don't have ears to hear your prayers or a heart to have compassion on you and your troubles.. Jn 3:16 says God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, (the gift) His Son to a dying world so that whoever believes in Him, they shall be saved by faith in Christ. I would suggest that you cry out to God the creator He will reveal Himself to you as He see fit. May God answer your cry.

I'm a Catholic. I believe God alone decides our fate when we die. When our soul/spirit separates at the time of death, God decides our fate. Not the pope, or the priest, or the minister, or all the know-it-alls. God created each of us. We are all his children. What we do with His gift of life will determine our fate in the next.

There is no verse in the Bible that states the individual has the ability to choose Christ, however, there are commands from God to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus.
How is a sinner saved, by choice, or by God? For the answer to that, we must turn to Ephesians 2:8-9, 'for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, that no man should glory'.

It is God's grace that saves sinners, not any work, such as making a decision. God receives all the glory in the saving of sinners. Men are born sinners, all fall short of the glory of God, as Romans 3:23 states. Who does God show mercy to? Look no farther than the tax collector in Luke 18, 'O God, be merciful to me, a sinner'. Your sins have separated you from your God {Isaiah 59:2}, and those who are broken over their sins are the ones God shows mercy to {Psalm 34:18, Psalm 51:17, Isaiah 57:15}.

To Ima Believer – We who are in Christ cannot give a 'formula' or 'method' for a sinner to follow in order to be saved, we must give the Gospel of Christ, His atoning sacrifice that satisfied the wrath of God for all who would believe. It is the word of God, the Gospel, that has the power to transform the sinner. The Holy Spirit uses God's word to work in the heart of the unregenerate sinner, to say you choose is to rob the Holy Spirit of His ministerial duties and God of glory.

Don't call me back – Almighty God, the only living God, the God who created all things by merely speaking them into existence, the God who fashioned man from the dust of the ground, and woman from man's rib; this is the God of the holy Bible. Almighty God is thrice holy, first and foremost. He will not let sin go unpunished because of His holiness, "And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible." Isaiah 13:11
This same God sent His only Son into the world to be a sacrifice for sin, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness of sin {Hebrews 9:22}. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was the only acceptable sacrifice for sin, for He was a lamb without spot/blemish. His sacrifice was once for all, not to be repeated yearly like that of the priest in the Old Testament. Only the shed blood of the Son of God would suffice. God's anger was appeased in His own Son's giving of Himself, all who trust completely in the finished work of Jesus Christ are no longer under wrath; they are declared in right standing with God because of the perfect, sinless, righteous life of God's own Son. Their sins have been removed, as far as the east is from the west {Psalm 103:12}. None of your works are righteous, for God sees them as a filthy garment {Isaiah 64:6}. No one can keep the law of God perfectly, continually. There was only One, it was Christ. None of our sacrifices can remove God's wrath and bring forgiveness, only the shed blood of Christ could do so.
I have no method to give you for salvation, for the power to save a sinner does not lie in man. I do encourage you to cry out to the Holy One for mercy, much like the tax collector did in Luke 18. If you are trusting in your own good works for entrance into God's kingdom, you will never enter. Salvation does not come as a result of works, it comes through grace. May God grant you understanding and give you ears to hear.

The Pope did state this, and if it is true it comes from long time teachings, then I would suggest he gets into the Bible and get relearned in the truth before it is too late for many to hear the truth.
Christ dying on the cross was for the sinners who would repent and come to Him and follow Him. If he died for what the pope says, then the cross was a waste of time and happened for no purpose if everyone will go to heaven without repenting and asking Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Saviour.

We are directed by God to do good, but why?

1 Peter 2:1-8 KJV Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

The reason we do what is good: Leviticus 10:3, 22:32, is because of God working in us by His Divine power 2 Peter 1:3-4 both to will and do according to His good purpose, Philippians 2:12-13 which He purposed in the elect before even the foundations of the earth was laid. Ephesians 2:10 and this He does for HIS OWN NAMES SAKE. Ezekiel 36:23, 11:19-21. It is not because we are good! We are not good! Not at all. In fact knowing we are not good and yet desiring to do good is an indication we are saved i.e. born again. 2 Corinthians 13:5-7 KJV So says God's word. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.

Some may say I can do good apart from Faith belief in the Great I AM, Exodus 3:14, Deuteronomy 32:39. While Hebrews 11:6 says that is quite impossible. There is No other God besides the God of the Bible, which includes the Torah and the prophets and the named apostles who were hand picked by Christ Himself to be His chosen representatives to the nations who were given the Gospel that the way to God is through faith in Christ Jesus who is the Son of God being very nature God and has been made Judge of ALL. John 5:19-47. And Christ is the Standard of Perfection 2 Corinthians 5:21 and the means by which men may be made right before God. Colossians 1:19-23, 2:13-15 for He died in our place and tasted death for all men that He may be the means of salvation for all. But not all will be saved, not all will see heaven, Matthew 7:21-27 in fact, few there will be that find the way Matthew 7:13-14, Matthew 16:24-25, Jeremiah 6:16.

I used to think I could do good. I could help people, I could do what would be considered good things at least from mans perspective. But that is the problem isn't it, I could only see things from mans perspective and I was blind to the truth. When God gives you a look from His perspective, now your not judging by appearances any longer, nor are you trusting your ears. Isaiah 11:2-3 His word is guiding your perception, His Spirit giving you understanding and filling the man of God with the Fear of the LORD that He may depart from evil and do what is good. You see yourself as you really are and other men as they really are and because of that you have no confidence in men or in yourself but only in the one who can raise the dead and will raise the dead.

There is more than just the Catholics who are following after a man other than Christ Jesus, makes you wonder where they have placed their faith. Seems to me we do not believe what God testifies of all men. I myself have my favorites, men I look to for instruction in righteousness so I see myself at fault here too and I wonder also where I place my own faith. It must be in Christ Jesus and I must hold everything captive to His word which is forever established in Heaven.

Pray to the Heavenly Father to keep your feet and to direct your paths after His ways that you may keep His word so that the world may know He has sent Jesus Christ into the world to save man and this proved of our love for one another: without partiality, without hypocrisy, without dissimulation. For in Love is the Law fulfilled.

God bless you and keep you and may the light of His countenance shine upon you and fill you with all joy as we Hope in Christ Jesus and look for the restoration of all things.

    Let me ask some questions:

    1. Before you accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, had He died for your sins? Yes. He redeemed you and everyone who did and would exist.

    2. Before you accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, were you capable of doing acts that were objectively good, such as obeying your parents or treating your wife and family well? Yes, though that doesn't save you, you could perform good acts.

    3. Conclusion: Jesus provided redemption for everyone, even atheists, by dying on the cross for everyone. Francis is not saying everyone is automatically saved by this. He is saying Christ died for all–but salvation is available to everyone.

    4. Francis is also saying that Christians and atheists can "meet" when they do good works together. This says nothing about whether or not the atheist has accepted Jesus offer of salvation. Francis is talking in part about the possibility of evangelizing atheists by cooperating with them on worthwhile projects. He is not talking about salvation by relying on our works rather than on Jesus' sacrifice, a proposition the Catholic Church condemns.

All kinds of leaders and even other christian leaders have lied or bent the truth. This case is different. It's the real followers of Jesus that will let Gods light shine in these last days. God's army is rising up and we are taking our place. It's not a pope during on his pope chair but the person who makes your coffee, the mail man, the guy who does your taxes or maybe even your boss or co worker. It's people of all kinds. We are gonna love people and show them who God really is and spread the truth! And we should definantly be praying for the pope that God shows him the truth.

How sad to see all us sinners bickering with each other and passing judgment on to each other. One trying to show his wisdom is far more superior than the other. What is even more sad is that we are doing it in his face. We should be praying for each other not fighting with words against each other. The devil has come to play amongst us and he's doing a good job of it. Let us pray that we may not fall into his hands.

  38. YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN!!

John 3:3. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, EXCEPT a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Romans 14:17. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:35. The Father loveth the Son, and hath
given ALL things into his hand.
John 3:36. He that BELIEVETH on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that BELIEVETH NOT the Son shall not see life; but the WRATH of God abideth on him.

Matthew 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 28: 20. Teaching them to OBSERVE ALL THINGS whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

1 Corinthians 1:18. For the preaching of THE CROSS is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it IS THE POWER OF GOD.
John 20: 31. But these are written, that YE MIGHT BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Romans 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
    17. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.
    18. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
    19. Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

God sent His Son Jesus to take away the sin of the world! when you accept His Son , you believe His commandments. Then you, the believer, will live by the leading of His Spirit in your life!

Now, you who do not accept God's Son for your salvation(infidels, heathen, lost), then the WRATH of God will fall upon you!

Yes, it is true you are following the desires of your own flesh, YOU CAN NOT HELP THAT! THAT IS THE NATURE OF ADAM THROUGH WHOM SIN CAME INTO THIS WORLD! SO, I must say to you, accept Jesus as your Savior and you will be delivered from that nature! Then you, the new believer, will live by the leading of His Spirit in your life!

      • If all go to heaven, then why does the bible say we must be born again Christians to enter the kingdom of the god,the bible even has a chosen amount of people that are going to heaven, the bible clearly states that even if u do good but do not believe in Christ will not enter the kingdom of heaven,so who is lying the bible or the pope,I guess he says that because he know there is no heaven they need to be truthfully with the public so ppl can live they lives, the bible also states that those who do not keep the comondments will not enter heaven, the bible even states those who say fool will not even enter heaven unless born again, and live like how yeshua Christ lived wich will be close to perfect,so what's this new thing all that do good go to heaven, the pope knows this is wrong but it won't bother him cause they know Christianity was made up,A true man of god will teach others the truth not tell them just do good and you go to heaven I'm really confused by this pope, there is no hell after you die that's it, think about it and face the truth it's been years and no Jesus has come for anyone, that's why we told we only see jesus and heaven when we die remember the dead cant talk ,and it is also said no one has been to heaven until Jesus comes and rises the dead, which will be after the earth is destroyed so still no one will ever know, there's a reason for this no one is going to see anything it's just a shame really, the bible also states thou shall not worship any idol gods,so the pope is just saying in plane English live ur life be good there is no heaven.

Is that literally a "sword of my mouth" or is that a metaphor for "truth"?

And if it is a metaphor, is any other part of scripture a metaphor?

And if it is not a metaphor, where do I get my mouth sword?

    December 21, 2013 at 3:11 PM

      Mf,

Yes, it is a metaphor. There are many metaphors in scripture.

"mouth swords" are freely given by God to those who have repented of their sins and believe that Jesus died in their place on the cross, and that He was buried and rose again for their justification. These receive the outpouring of His Holy Spirit and the two edged sword.

Eph_6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Heb_4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Lord will give you your very own mouth sword if you ask, but it comes with a price–complete surrender to Him.

I would suggest that you too, "do your homework". If you actually allow yourself to believe that there was no Jesus Christ, you have made yourself extremely ignorant and in grave danger. If you believe that there was indeed this man named Jesus, the Christ but refuse to believe that He was and is Who He said He is, then of course you would call Him a liar and you place your soul in the worst condition possible. HOWEVER, so long as you breath, it's not too late. DO YOUR HOMEWORK Son! Read the bible (THE WHOLE BIBLE), go to the Roman Catholic Mass weekly, study scripture with other catholics, pray for guidance and if none of this brings you to your knees, well then …

But doesn't God favor what is in the heart over what is on the tongue? I seriously question the value of calling yourself a Christian as a pathway to heaven. We are saved by Grace, not by calling ourselves Christians. Our conscience is the mark of that Grace, manifested in our urge to do good — "I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts" Jeremiah 31:33 — so if God is looking into our hearts to determine who shall receive Grace and who shall not, it seems entirely possible to me that God would offer that Grace to an atheist with a good heart over a person who claims to be Christian but acts like a jerk and doesn't care who gets hurt by it. If a person gives lip service to God out of selfishness, out of a desire to get into heaven, why would God accept that person's "conversion" as valid? It's not what we say (or do) that matters, it's what is in our hearts. Measuring Grace by our accomplishments is unacceptable not because good works don't matter, but because they are as much a reflection of a person's privilege as of what is in their heart. A rich person may accomplish a great deal more with much less effort than a poor person, but that doesn't make their contribution more valuable in the eyes of God. It's our *desire* to do good that God cares about, not our success at it.

Don't think for a minute that GOD would ordain any institution. Much less, one that has a rotten history that is still being written to this day. Catholicism is evil. And that's all there is to it. What does that mean for all those who are members of it? To be the member of any false institution is a sign of foolishness and lack of wisdom.

Aside from that. All people should be concerned about where the Bible talks about the Narrow and Broad paths to Heaven. Only one leads there. And it isn't the broad one. In other words, the correct path to GOD is unpopular and requires a high commitment. One that many will not be capable of because of their intense desire to enjoy the world. Imagine walking any narrow path. It requires training and devotion. It's a life long commitment. Every one has the chance to walk it. But not everyone will. And this has been foretold. Jesus proclaimed it. There is a simply way to Heaven. And the Pope is the same liar he has always been. A deceiver. The things Jesus taught do not resemble any church institution of today. All have fallen away. The only source of TRUTH you will get is directly from the Holy Bible. And if you don't work for it yourself, then you won't get it. How much you love GOD? You willing to prove it with all your heart, mind, and LIFE? If not, then you don't love Him at all. Jesus PROVED IT. And He told us to do the same. Deny yourself. Give up this life. Or it will be the last one you live.

This is a very truthful comment you wrote here. I have some friends who are Catholic, and my heart cries for them as the Pope is leading so many to hell by his leadership. He never refers to the Bible, but makes some philisophical statement that is way out of logic.
No one can let a man lead them, never mind a big corporation like the catholic church.
The only way for the truth is in the Bible, and some comments this pope has made is totally out of line with Biblical teachings. I think he needs to get saved and have a relationship with Jesus Christ, and maybe then he could be a better leader as he goes on.
The Pope said 'those who interpret the Church's teachings as a way of life that is a "moralistic, caustic ideology" have a "serious illness."' He thinks that no one should mention those things spoken about that are sinful should not be spoken, eg..homosexuality. This statement in quotation marks is a statement he made, and I cut and pasted it.

Michael, You say "the Bible is the best guide there is to get to the Kingdom of God'. And then in the same sentence you say we must remember "it is still written to human beings and written a long time ago"..that some verses should not be taken literally and some things are 'outdated'.

First of all, how can the Bible be our best guide to eternal life if it cannot be trusted to be God's Word in its entirety? Yes, it was written to human beings, but written by a perfect, all powerful. all knowing God. To say that Scriptures have been corrupted or in some way are not trustworthy suggests a weak, incapable God who is unable to communicate clearly, who changes with the times, who just leaves men hanging…wondering what is really true. That is not the God I have come to know through His holy infallible Word. He can do ALL things including giving us His written Word which can be trusted.

The Word of God has all we need to find eternal life if we will just commit to reading it, praying first in humility for the Holy Spirit to open it to our understanding. Without the Holy Spirit's help, we will not understand. If we seek with a humble heart praying for God's guidance, he will give it. You can trust Him to do that.

Yes, God is love, but, if you read the Bible, you will see that he is also a holy God, a God of justice and, at times, a God of wrath because He hates sin… takes it very seriously. Just one sin is enough to send you or I to hell for eternity because God is infinitely and even frightfully holy. Yet in His great mercy and love, He sent His own Son to take our sins and the punishment we deserve so we can be saved. When we repent, turn from our sin, and trust in Christ alone, we can be cleansed and made fit for heaven.(Romans 5:1-2, Ephesians 2:4-10) That is amazing love! But horrifying wrath does await those who will not repent, will not turn and trust in Christ as their only savior. ..the only way to heaven. God is not only a loving God. He is also a just God who will punish sin. That is justice. If He were not just, He would not be loving at all. The Bible plainly teaches these things.

It is not a matter of 'hating' Catholics or Mormons or any other religious group. It is the matter of knowing and obeying the truth. If we believe what the Bible clearly teaches, that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, then we would be unloving not to tell others, especially those who are being deceived by a false gospel and a false Christ. There are many today who call themselves 'christian' but who are trusting in their own goodness to get them to heaven. The Bible says that all of our good works are like filthy rags to God. There is only one who is good and that is Jesus Christ. You need His goodness, His sinless nature imputed to you. That is the only way to be saved…to get to heaven. "There is none righteous, no not one.'
So if you think you can get to heaven because you are a good person, go to church, etc. think again. The Word of God condemns us all as sinners in need of a Savior, no matter how good we try to be on our own. But men like to think they can have a part in their own salvation. However, that is totally hopeless according to the Word of God and many will be shocked on Judgment Day when they hear the words: "Depart from Me. I never know you."

I was Catholic and trusted in the pope, the church, the sacraments, the rituals, and was very sincere all in my good efforts. But I was still dead in my sins because I had never personally met the Savior or understood why He came or how to receive Him into my life. The first step out of darkness was simply reading the Bible…yes that forbidden book we as Catholics were told we couldn't understand without a priest to teach it to us. Well, I not only understood it, it changed me life forever and brought me out of a works-righteous system that is powerless to save anyone.

"why do you condemn people with different faith and beliefs to hell and reject them even if they are good people? "

I don't condemn anyone to hell. Only God can do that. And since there are no good people on the face of this planet (Romans 3: 10-12),everyone no matter how sincere in their belief in a man made religious system, is already condemned to hell because they have rejected the Bible and the only way of salvation given to man which is Jesus Christ and Him alone.

I pray God will open you heart to the truth. Just read the Bible for yourself with an open humble heart and God will show you the truth of these matters. God be with you.

    Courtland,

You claim "there is a Jesus in all of us", but the Bible teaches otherwise. What lies within the human heart? "For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings". Matthew 15:19 All are born sinners, all sin and fall short of God's glory { Read Romans 3:23}. Christ is without sin, "Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God" 1 Peter 3:18
All have sinned and will continue in sin unless grace intervenes. Here lies the problem, we have no clue how sinful and wicked all of mankind is. Nothing defiled by sin will enter God's kingdom "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." Revelation 21:27

The Bible commands sinners to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus; this isn't a choice, nor is it based on which denomination you're affiliated with. There must be a brokenness over sin, a godly sorrow. There must be a forsaking of sin, and a wholehearted trust in the redemptive work of Christ. That doesn't mean you add to it any work, no partaking of the mass, no praying to Mary, no following of any mortal man. Christ must be the Alpha and the Omega, He must be the first love in the heart of the born again believer. It can only be so if God has truly re-birthed the sinner, giving the sinner a new heart {see John 3:3, Ezekiel 36:26-27}; a right understanding of their own wickedness, and a work of the Holy Spirit bringing all this about. The Gospel is good news, that Christ has made atonement for sin, that Christ died for the ungodly, that He reconciles sinners back to a holy God through His redemptive work. Trusting solely in what Christ has already done is what is commanded.
Sadly, in America, there is an accursed Gospel and multitudes of dead religions, all of which lead down the broad road. Satan has always twisted the truth of the word of God and as he seeks to deceive. The pope is not a man of God, he is an unregenerate sinner who seeks to widen the broad road with his universalism and demonic views. In short, he is evil. His agenda is NOT of God, he is a tool in the hands of Satan to deceive the masses..and it's working. Millions have already perished thinking they were on their way to heaven as they adhered to the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. But God saves sinners from every tribe, tongue and nation.

I encourage you to read Rose's comment, for there's much truth in it. Multitudes are deceived and are on their way to hell because they believe in a 'Jesus' they formed from their own opinion. Jesus Christ is God, He is thrice holy, He is righteous and merciful, faithful and true. You cannot know Him apart from the Holy Bible, He only reveals Himself to those He saves. Mercy is your greatest need, you are in desperate need of the mercy of God to save you. God, in His judgment, has sworn He will send a delusion on all who reject truth. All who follow man-made methods of religion, or fashion a 'god of their own understanding' will fall into this delusion. There could be no greater tragedy than to fall into that delusion. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 speaks of the very thing I mention.

The pope has a point. You do have to believe in Christ but also do good works you can't have one and not the other.

I assume you are saying that faith in Christ plus good works if the formula for getting to heaven. I was taught the same when I was a Catholic. But that is not what the the Bible teaches. Read Galatians and Romans. I know…some people will claim the Book of James contradicts what Paul wrote. But James is talking about how we can know if someone has true faith… since true saving faith will produce works in keeping with the person's profession. James is not talking about works being a requirement or having any part in our salvation. He is talking about how works are the evidence that one IS a true Christian. James and Paul compliment each other. We are saved by the grace of God and grace alone through the sacrifice of Christ. Once we are saved though, then we will be sanctified through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives; meaning we will forsake sin and do works that are in keeping the new life we have received. It is a life long process and can not be accomplished without the help of the Holy Spirit whom we receive the moment we are born again. Works are the outgrowth of faith and the evidence we are truly changed…that we have the life of Christ in us. But works do not, cannot save a person. Salvation is the work of Christ alone. Good works are simply the product of salvation, never the means to it. Good works cannot make you right with God. Is it not Jesus PLUS something you do because, in truth, you are helpless and can do nothing to save yourself. It is ALL of Jesus…His sacrifice (His work) alone saves a person.

Galations 2:16: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no man be justified.

Verse 21: I do not frustrate the grace of God for if righteousness come by the law, Christ died in vain.

Indeed…why would Jesus have had to die if we could do something to save ourselves? It is pride on our part to think we can add anything to what Christ did on calvary. He said, 'It is finished.' The work was done for those who will trust in Christ alone. A free gift..you cannot earn it.

Romans 3: 20: By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is knowledge of sin. Verse 24: Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Verse 28: We conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Romans 4:56: But to the one who does not work, but believes in him who justified the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet siinners, Christ died for us. Much more then being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

After salvation, we can begin to bear fruit. Romans 6:6 "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." This is sanctification. The scriptures clearly teach that salvation is through Christ alone, by His grace alone, through faith alone.

Read it and see for yourself. If you would like further study, go to carm.org. Type 'works-righteousness' into the search box. Search 'Roman Catholicism' there as well to see how its teachings do not line up with Scriptures. Don't believe and put your full trust in a religious institution run by men. Believe God's Word and find the true way of salvation.

What the pope fails to understand is that good works do not save anybody. If we could work our way to heaven there would have been no need for Christ's death, burial and resurrection. The good works that true regenerates do are a result of being saved, not a means of salvation. The Apostle Paul clearly teaches from Galatians this, "yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ". Salvation precedes the works we do. The works we do manifest God has done a work in our hearts {Ezekiel 36:26-27}.
The traditions of the Roman Catholic Church save no one, it is a dead religion that keeps sinners in their bondage, yet promises them heaven.
How many know what it means to believe in Christ? This isn't merely a verbal profession, for Christ warns against this in Isaiah 29:13; ""Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men." To believe on the Lord Jesus is to forsake ALL that you have, desire, consider important. {Luke 14:33}.
    It is to deny yourself, to give yourself as a living sacrifice for Christ. Your life is NOT your own, the life you now live you live by faith in the Son of God and for the Son of God. You will suffer afflictions and trials as God refines you, you will face hatred and separation from loved ones who are not born again. You will be a pilgrim in this life as you journey through onto a ' better country, that is, a heavenly one'.{Heb. 11:16}
'All who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution' 2 Timothy 3:12
You will follow Christ, even if you lose every earthly possession you own. You trust in God, even if you have no money in the bank and no food in your house: THIS is true, saving faith, a faith only the Most High can give and work in us. It is a 24/7 commitment to Christ, not a once a week thing. So very many people are on the broad road! They are blinded by their allegiance to dead religions and gods they form out of their own understanding. May God have mercy

So well stated, Lyn. I was once on that broad way going merrily along thinking I was ok..a a pretty good person so I thought. Oh, sure, I might do a little time in purgatory for my venial sins, but, in the end, I would get to heaven…eventually…because I was working very had to be good and hadn't committed any 'mortal' sins. (Little did I know back then that all sins are mortal in the sense that any one of them, big or small, is enough to damn a person to hell.) I was what you would call a 'good Catholic' girl…attending daily mass, saying my rosaries, lighting candles to Mary, never missing confession, communion, etc, etc. Until one day, it dawned on me. I was doing all these things, but my heart wasn't really getting any better and the people around me at church and Catholic school weren't getting better either. I couldn't really see any change on the inside where I needed it so much. Then the Bible opened my eyes. I stepped off that broad road onto the narrow one….praise God! I would never go back to the bondage of works-righteousness and my heart aches for those who are still in that system. Oh that they would open a Bible and just read it with an open, humble heart asking God to show them the truth. He will!

Where Mercy is my defense. Thank you Jeshua, for your blood that is over me! The other group will stand in the White Throne Judgement and all the do good-ers will find out there was a standard of holiness and righteousness they knew nothing about and they are cast out of Heaven to where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Just BECAUSE A MAN IS WEARING THE CLOTH OF THE TRUTH DOESN'T MEAN THE TRUTH IS IN HIM. The LORD talks about 'dead white sepluchars, if he sees nothing outstanding about Jesus he is an empty, dead vessel. Jesus is the way the truth and the life, No man cometh unto the Father but through me! John 14:6. The athiests will want to listen to the Pope for it doesn't require faith in God's gift of love. Romans 1:18-21
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are WITHOUT EXCUSE: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."

By choosing not to believe despite all the evidence God has given in his creation, they ARE rejecting God. Every person will one day stand before Him to give an account of their lives. The atheist will have no defense. Unbelief is a sin… not an excuse.

  69. May be the pope said that because of John 5:28-29, where Jesus says, “… for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.”

So that is probably why they believe they will get eternal life if they do good deeds.

    January 6, 2014 at 9:14 PM
    • Sharon Ann #

By using that argument, now define what are good deeds? Those that man deems are good? Or, those that God deems are good? What does God deem as acceptable?

Just prior to [John 5:28] is [John 5:23, 24] where Jesus says "whoever hears My Word and believes in Him who sent Me, has eternal life".
In the surrounding verses, basically, Jesus was claiming His Authority and His deity based on His relationship with the Father….the emphasis is on God, not man.

      January 7, 2014 at 5:54 AM
  70. For atheist it doesn't matter what you can say. It's all about what you can prove.

    January 6, 2014 at 9:19 PM
    • Rose #

God doesn't need to 'prove' Himself to anyone. All you have to do is look around you. It takes more faith to believe that nothing created everything… that our complex world just evolved out of the slim… than to just believe what God says in the Bible. I could turn it right around on you…it is all about what you can prove… in claiming there is no god. Prove it! See….it works both ways.Takes much more faith to be an atheist than to believe in the Creator.

People choose not to believe because they love their sin too much and don't want to give it up. They don't want God telling them how to live…that is what it all comes down to. It is not an issue of needing proof of God's existence because the proof is all around you on a daily basis. It's what the existence of a creator will mean for the atheist..submission to His will. Atheists don't want a god because they already have one…themselves.

The Pope did NOT say that atheists will be saved even if they do not believe. You'll notice in none of these quotes does he actually say that. What he said is that atheists are still capable of doing good things, and can still listen to their conscience. Jumping to conclusions that he meant atheists will go to Heaven is a distortion of what he actually did say.

      Mark:

so what does it profit any man to do 'good things'? "What does the bible say about our attempt at righteous deeds? Isaiah 64:6 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away."

Let's not forget this from Romans 3:12, "They have all turned aside, they are together become unprofitable; There is none that doeth good, no, not so much as one."

If you don't believe there is heaven, why do you become happy when you are told if you do good you will go to heaven? First of all, no one is deceiving you, you are deceiving yourself. If you don't believe there is God, how can you believe there is heaven? You don't even need to worry the Pope about heaven. Heaven is meant for all but not all will enter heaven. No one can tell you you will go to heaven except Jesus. If He tells you be happy because your name has been written in the book of life, that is true. The book of life is in the hands of Jesus. He is the judge. For your name to be written in that book is by doing the will of God. If you don't believe in God, how do you do His will? You can do good but as whether it's your own will or the will of humanity or the will of God is what no one can tell. This is where grace is deemed most important. We need the grace to even do His will. Heaven is meant for all but not all will enter heaven except those who do the will of God.

  79. How to know when the pope is wrong: First and foremost his teaching are contrary to scripture. If the works of man could bring salvation, then there would be no need for grace and the sacrifice. People need to stop relying on the church to teach scripture and learn it for themselves. If you remove either faith or grace, then we become the ants of the giant ant farm. Likewise the Jews were not saved by keeping the law. The law was a means of testing their faith. God blessed them when they were faithful and disciplined them when they were not.

Watching this interview between (fairly smart, but sad little) Marc Lamont Hill and some snot-nosed girl (who claims to be Catholic, but has no real formation in the Faith as evidenced by her statements and inability to correct little Marc) about Pope Francis's comments that all are "redeemed" and seeing how the moronic (I mean this lovingly because I've been there) masses jump all over this to make their "own" interpretations was so nauseating. Marc would have had it absolutely RIGHT, if he would have said; "the pope would have done a great injustice to the Roman Catholic Church" IF he meant that everyone is going to heaven, period. Pope Francis DID NOT FRICKEN' SAY THAT! What he said was MUCH MORE PROFOUND AND WONDERFUL and TRUE. What he said was true and always has been and always will be, TRUE. He said that Christ, by His very suffering, death on a cross, resurrection and ascension into Heaven gave every human born into this world THE POSSIBILITY of Heaven. Believe that, accept that and now the true challenge begins. We must then "live it". Yes, we will all sin along the way, but not all of us will repent, Truly repent and seek to be sanctified by Him), constantly do our best to imitate Jesus and "Trust in Him" and all He has spoken and established from the very first apostles and first pope down through the ages till today and always. All this lies within the Roman Catholic (yes, the One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church) Faith. Christ has given Himself to us. This Pope would take both youngsters in this really embarrassing interview "to school" if they had but 15 minutes to allow him to elaborate on what he meant when he made that statement. This Pope will be lied about and mis-represented and mis-interpreted until the end of time. That's just the human race for you. This Pope is and will show the world what Truth really looks like. He will show us all how we are called to live and NO, it ain't easy. FINALLY, Pope Benedict was just as holy and on the same page in catholicism as Pope Francis is. DO YOUR FRICKEN' HOMEWORD PEOPLE! RayRay,
You've gone into a very complex area of the Christian Faith. No man can judge completely, the soul of another, but you are correct by saying that if one has come to learn of the holy spirit and lives his life to completely reject the holy spirit, he cannot be forgiven. I believe (not certain) that the Church teaches that the only person we know for sure has committed this unforgivable sin is satan.

He would remind you that good works and faith are synonymous. You cannot have "faith" and live without doing "good works". This is so elementary. I hope you are not actually trying to distort the fact that the fullness of Truth lies within the Roman Catholic Faith, only.? If so, may I suggest you continue to do your homework, like the rest of us are called to do. Are you full of pride and judgmental, or are you seeking the Truth?

Tom, Here is a little more homework for you. Do some reading at Carm.org/roman-catholicism. You will read exact quotes there from Catholic Catechism which prove that the Catholic Church does indeed teach salvation by faith in Christ PLUS works…that one must believe AND work to get to heaven. But the Bible teaches we are saved by faith in Christ's work alone. It is only AFTER we are saved and born again by God's Spirit that we CAN do any good works… part of the sanctification process. Good works have no part in earning our salvation. It was all done by Christ. It is actually arrogance to think we could do anything to add to what Christ has already done. More homework…read Galatians and Romans which clearly teach salvation is by faitih alone. Many Catholics refer to the Book of James to say that works are necessary for salvation. But he is speaking about a lateral relationship person to person…how we can know if someone who claims to be a Christian is truly saved. A true Christian is one who WILL grow in good works and have a life that is changed. If a person confesses Christ, but his life is unchanged and there is no fruit, we must question whether that person is truly saved since works always follows true conversion. James is not saying our salvation is dependent on works. Not at all.

The pope is just a mere man. I will follow the only example I need and that is Christ alone. Why would I look to a man who is by nature a sinner? Christ is God and Man… and the only man who never sinned…not even once. The pope is but a fallible man…just like the rest of us.

I speak as a former Catholic…from a strict Catholic family, educated in Catholic schools and Catholic college. Reading God's Word (the forbidden book) is what opened my eyes.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches salvation is by baptismal regeneration and maintained through the sacraments, unless you commit a willful act of sin, thus breaking the state of sanctifying grace. In short, you MUST work to maintain your salvation, according to the teachings of the RCC.

The Bible teaching on salvation is nothing like that of the RCC, " For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. " Ephesians 2:8-9. God is the one who saves the sinner, and sustains them throughout their time on earth until they are called home. Salvation is entirely from the Lord, which is why it cannot be lost, nor can it be 'maintained' by man's own efforts. Works are always the result of being born again by God, evidencing He's done a work in the heart. They are not mandatory for salvation but rather, evidence of it.

This pope is no different than his successors, he is a deceiver and a liar. He leads a dead religion that takes sinners down the broad road and straight into hell. The pope's 'father' is Satan.

The pope is correct much to the dismay of some warmongering holier-than-thou fundamentalist protestants…You can't just love Jesus and hate your fellow man for whatever you do to the least of Gods creatures you do also to him and God is not mocked

      Barfollowmiew,

The pope is correct, how so? Perhaps these verses will help you

Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away". Isaiah 64:6

      "Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
There is no one who does good, not even one." Psalm 53:3

"For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law." Romans 3:28

"just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works." Romans 4:6

So, you still believe doing 'good things' gets you into heaven? If you follow the Pope's erroneous unbiblical teachings, you will spend eternity forever separated from God. Christ already did all for those He saves, trusting completely in His finished work is what 'faith' is. Following Him, knowing He is the One who provides our every need, equips us to do good, and cares for us is what 'faith' is. There are two kinds of faith; a true, genuine faith given by God as a gift {see Ephesians 2:8-9}, and a faith that saves no one, faith like that of demons, ' the demons also believe, and shudder.' James 2:19. The latter is the kind of 'faith' the Pope speaks of.

That is surely the spirit of Antichrist speaking. It is superlative blasphemy. When God has revealed in His Word that no one comes to Him except through His Son, why will you utter such a thing? ''but he that believeth not is condemned already'' When God has set the way of salvation, who are you to change it? He should tell us that he is depending on his works without faith in Jesus as the Christ, and we will show him,as the Scripture says-'condemned already.' except grace intervene b4 his death. How can a man who does not believe in the existence of God, turn nd then live with him? Doesn't common sense even teaches us, that it is impossiple? And the atheists and unbelievers must not think, that it is a good news, rather a very bad nd sad one! If grace does not locate them through faith in Jesus alone, nd they die like that, they ar doomed for Hell fire. May God have mercy and help their unbelief!

To all you smart alecs … those that know what is the exact way for salvation … those that can through a bible verse at anything …

You are hilarious … and perhaps more lost than you know.

I'm a simple man … God fearing and yes I also have questions in my mind … but unlike the smart alecs who think they know as much as God himself, I will not belive that God will have has nailed down by al the things that you cling to as 'gospel' !!

God is there without the doing of humans … fact !
Religions, doctrines, ceremonies, do nots and dos, etc etc are there by the invention of man or inteptretation by man of God's desires and words.
We are puting God in a golden cage and making the rules to our liking .. then we argue about them? Please !!!

Minerva hit the right button – thanks !!!
I'll repeat it for the sake of your ease with our permission Minerva:-

But doesn’t God favor what is in the heart over what is on the tongue? I seriously question the value of calling yourself a Christian as a pathway to heaven. We are saved by Grace, not by calling ourselves Christians. Our conscience is the mark of that Grace, manifested in our urge to do good — “I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts” Jeremiah 31:33 — so if God is looking into our hearts to determine who shall receive Grace and who shall not, it seems entirely possible to me that God would offer that Grace to an atheist with a good heart over a person who claims to be Christian but acts like a jerk and doesn’t care who gets hurt by it. If a person gives lip service to God out of selfishness, out of a desire to get into heaven, why would God accept that person’s “conversion” as valid? It’s not what we say (or do) that matters, it’s what is in our hearts. Measuring Grace by our accomplishments is unacceptable not because good works don’t matter, but because they are as much a reflection of a person’s privilege as of what is in their heart. A rich person may accomplish a great deal more with much less effort than a poor person, but that doesn’t make their contribution more valuable in the eyes of God. It’s our *desire* to do good that God cares about, not our success at it.

Special note … for the jerk (smart??) Christians …. don't do what a you are doing and think you are ok !!

Also look at this (for those that like to qoute):-
Luke 6:37 & Mat 7:1 tells us not to condemn others & we won't be.
We are all on a journey and it is our job to love others, the Holy Spirits to convict. We are to speak the truth in love, so we won't pretend that there is a way apart from Jesus.

True, for us as christians … God, the Holy Spirit and Christ is one …i.e. 1x1x1=1
So then ….. Believing in the same God means you believe in Jesus, they are one.
    mmmmmmmmmm ?
    Think about it.

Stop with all your complicated smartness. I'm ashamed of all you smart christians …. you know everything yet you are mere mortals
Stick to what good God wants from us, live His Way and do it as good as a mortal can do it. Pray and repent.
The rest is in God's hand so fear him but know that He loves you, and even the worst sinner also!

Enough! I wil not read your writings anymore.

Ah! …I like the word "reason"! It reminds me of one of my favorite passages in God's Word.

"Come now, and let us REASON together" says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow"; [Isaiah 1:17-19]

What a blessing as a believer, (by faith of course), to be able to approach the Throne of His Grace and communicate with God….wow!

The Apostle Paul reasoned often with the Greeks & Jews [Book of Acts]….Nothing wrong with reason if kept in perspective.

      ReasonNotFaith,

If you really believed what you are saying, you would not visit Christian blogs and so vehemently seek to deny the God who created you. God has left just enough evidence that He exists in His creation; the stars prove He exists, as do the sun and moon. The earth and universe prove He exists, for He sustains it all. He sends rain, or withholds it. He causes the sun to shine on the righteous as well as the unrighteous.
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse." Romans 1:20 The God who created heaven and earth has declared you are without excuse; your denial only proves what He says in Psalms 14:1, "The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."

Simply claiming there is no God will not keep you from being accountable for your sins against Him; for all have sinned and fall short of His glory. He is a God of mercy, and has provided away for sinners to be reconciled through the finished work of His Son, Jesus Christ. There is hope for sinners, for Christ died for the ungodly. Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, on His death, burial and resurrection. He made payment for sin for all who believe. All are born sinners since the fall of man in the garden, all hate God and reject His Christ. God, in His mercy, graciously saves sinners. There is hope beyond the grave for those who, in this life, trust in what Christ has done for atonement of sin.

There is a literal hell, the Lord Jesus teaches on it in Luke 16.
The body indeed does go into the ground, however, the soul will separate from the body at death. The one who rejects the God of the Bible and the cross of Christ will forever be punished, the one who is saved will be forever with the Lord. "we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8

As for the unbelieving, "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." – Revelation 21:8

It's more frightening to believe the world exists and keeps it's place in the solar system by mere chance is it not? For what keeps the sun's energy from ceasing to exist? What keeps the oceans from swallowing up the dry land { And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further; and here shall thy proud waves be stayed" – Job 38:11} ; how is it the rain falls in due season; why do the crops grow & the seasons change? "He gives rain on the earth And sends water on the fields." Job 5:10

"By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." – Psalm 33:6-9

God has left enough evidence? Show me one? One you can prove. Not the crap you just vomited. Because evidence by definition is anything presented in support of an assertion which when strong is direct proof of the assertion. The Sun IS a star and no that doesn't proves there's good or god created it. The rain happens because when water get hot it evaporates to the atmosphere where it condenses and cools and becomes water again. Looked that up in the Discovery Kids website for your information. Get it? Rest of your bible quotes are just crap and is for YOU to prove that the sky dude wrote them and not for me to disapprove. Did I make myself clear enough or do you need the sky dude to tell that to you before the sun shines on your brainwashed mind?

I already told you, go out and look at the night sky; the heavens declare the glory of God.

By coming here, you prove you know there is a God, you only want to suppress that truth and deny. Why else would you visit a Christian blog?

Now, you prove to me He doesn't exist. I am not looking for opinions or human reasoning either. What solid evidence do you have to support that there is no God, other than your own words?

Why? Oh I find it fun to indulge with mindless bigots who believe in the god crap. It was my choice and NO god didn't whisper in my ears.. And NO it again doesn't proves there is god but simply that I don't believe there is. That's why!

I prove to you he doesn't exists? Really? That idiotic! Well I am not claiming for him/her to be/exists so why should I be the one burdened to provide proof? It's your claim that there IS a god, you prove it!

Of-course you can't because there IS NO PROOF! All your mumbo-jumbo reciting Bible like a fanatical idiot with no mind of your own only proves how ignorant you really are. Don't get it? Ok I believe there's a computer flying in the sky who controls each and every aspect of this world including what you are about to say next. Now you prove it doesn't exists. Go on..

You deny there is a Creator – God; so what sustains all of creation? Why do we die from diseases? Why do some die at a young age and others live well into their 80's and 90's? What keeps all the planets in perfect alignment with the sun?

          Reason,

Have you ever looked at a blade of grass with an immature seed head, and marveled at it's beauty, until your eyes were opened to see the Creator? I have.

Did you ever pick a wildflower, and notice the intricate delicacy of it's design? I have.

Did you ever cry out to God that your own mother didn't love you, and actually hear His voice come from within you to your ears and say, "But I love you!"

Did He ever heal your broken heart, or soothe your fears by holding your hand? He did these things for me. And so much more.

I cannot prove to you that God is, yet I cannot deny that I know Him.

Prove Him yourself. Cry out to Him in truth, and seek Him with all your heart, and He will reveal Himself to you. I have no doubt!

Until you do this, your arguments against Him are vain.

Creation proves there is a Creator; it isn't that there's no proof, you just deny what is plain. Your moniker, 'reasonnotfaith' doesn't seem fitting. You don't really reason, you just express an opinion as if that's the source of all truth.

God created man, in His own image. You have a God that created you – " Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." – Genesis 1:26

This same God who created you also sacrificed His own Son for the sins of all who believe on the Lord Jesus; this displays His mercy. He also displays His mercy by giving you breath in your lungs and He keeps your heart beating. He sends rain for food, He provides sun, plants, animals… all of the earth is sustained by His power. What a glorious God He is!

How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

    Reasonnotfaith,

Unfortunately, you prove no rational means of being able to seriously take part in a debate, other than resorting to some child-like antics by resorting to continual name calling. I asked you questions, you simply don't answer them; so what exactly is it you are trying to accomplish here? It's obvious you have nothing to bring to the table apart from name calling and mindless accusations; what is your goal then? I can see none.
You may be taken a bit more serious if you were more respectful to other people, your insulting words only prove you have no respect for anyone. Since you only spew out your opinions and accusations with nothing to back them, I'm afraid it's fruitless to continue on with you. You don't read nor do you respond to questions, you only respond with words I would expect to hear from an adolescent.

I do pray God would choose to reveal Himself to you.

Of course its fruitless as you can't win with valid arguments. Your questions are so silly they DO NOT deserve an answer. Why do you think I recommended you go to school first or at the least the discovery kids website? So that you can get a bit of education first and really know how stars form and why planets orbit around their sun and other SCIENTIFIC questions. Your argument that all of that is "because god" is NO answer/explanation. You are asking me to put a blind faith on your assertions. Why should I?

It's hard to declare a 'winner' when you refuse to engage in intelligent reasoning. If you recall, you are the one who came here and attempted to challenge, but all you really wanted to do was insult human beings who think differently than you do. There is no winner here, for in order to win, you have to actually engage with reasoning and intelligent conversation. Instead, you use terms like 'fanatical idiot' and 'sky daddy'; then you declare yourself a winner…so be it. You proved nothing other than you are incapable of intelligent interaction with those who oppose your opinion.

The only thing you did prove is that you have no proof God does not exist; you also proved you have much hate in your heart for human beings and your mother never taught you to respect other people. You prove you have a foul mouth and you prove you are not capable of engaging others who disagree with you…so what have you accomplished and what have you won?
How true is the word of God, 'A fool says in his heart, there is no God'. The word 'fool' can also be translated 'moron'.

BTW, for future reference…the next time you go looking to 'pick a fight' with people remember this; the burden of proof is on YOU. You see, we believe God exists and we have nothing to prove to those who don't. Your demanding that we prove something to you is ridiculous because, your mind is already made up. You do not believe and honestly, you can't believe there is a God unless He chooses to reveal Himself to you. So you really have not accomplished one thing, except some imaginary battle in your own mind. You presented nothing substantial and yet, you declare victory. The mind truly is deluded and depraved, just as the word of God teaches. Man can convince himself of anything…and he does. Sadly, you are living proof of that.

  98. The bible says thou shall not judge,if Jesus was here he would say forgive the pope father for he does not know what he do,same goes for you dear, you a Christian think like one be humble cause even jesus will want you to pray for those who are lost and not judge any one at all not even the man that don't believe in god but pray for him, that's why ppl dont go to church cause there's always stones been cast, remember god even loves the non believer so you be carefull dear, when it comes to calling ppl names like wolves in sheep clothing only Christ is allowed that not us,at all,if someone still breathing and living on this earth u need to be quiet and pray like what Jesus done wen he lived on earth.

Yes you could, but it would not be accurate; I never confronted you, nor did I insult you. I did not declare myself a 'winner', because I have nothing to prove to you, nor do I see this as a battle in which someone must be declared a winner. So in all acuality, you cannot really say the same thing to me.

May your sin-hardened heart be made anew, may the Holy Spirit move in you and cause you to cry out to God for mercy for your soul. God is love, but He is also holy and righteous. He will punish you for your sins; Jesus Christ gave himself for sinners like you, ungodly people who deny the God who created them. There is hope for you, may grace and mercy be poured out from on High. May God make Himself known to you and reveal your evil heart to you. May Christ be your Savior and reconcile you back to your God.

    • Marta, I had to stop you there and delete the remainder of your post including the link to the Mormon site. Sorry, but this web page is NOT for Mormon apologetics.

Marta, This is a Christian discernment website. As such, it is not the proper forum for you to try to convert people to Mormonism. Mormonism is not Christianity. The two are very different. Please check out carm.org. At that website, click on 'World Religions'. Then click on Mormonism. Read what the differences between the two religions are. Very striking.

You want to impart truth to us, but do you have the truth yourself? Be sure you are not being deceived. There is only one book which gives us the truth… the true way of salvation and that book is the Bible. It has not been corrupted as you have been taught.. Please step out of your comfort zone for a few minutes and read some of the information at Carm, praying first, asking God to reveal His truth. Mormonism is a religion of many gods. You worship a god who was once a man like us and Mormons are told they can one day become gods as well themselves. We worship a very different God who is the only sovereign Lord of the Universe. He sent His Son, Jesus, who is both God and Man to save us from our sins.

Christianity and Mormonism…very different, Marta. One leads to life. The other is a deception created by the enemy which is leading many astray….to eternal damnation. I was once a Roman Catholic. I believed in a religious system of rituals, sacraments, and rules which are largely the creation of man. The traditions of men, not the Bible, ruled my life. I was deceived for many years by a false gospel and a false Christ who could not save me. The Bible was not a book I ever read. When I did finally take the time to read it, my eyes were opened to the deception I was following. I was placing all my trust in a religion that cannot save anyone because it is works based. Good works cannot save us and, in fact, have no part in salvation. Only Christ can save through His sacrifice for us on the cross. Then after we are saved, we will do good works as the Holy Spirit changes us and enables us to grow in obedience to Him. Without salvation through Christ by His grace alone, we can do nothing good for God. Mormonism teaches that Jesus is Satan's brother. To even say such a thing is blasphemy because Jesus is Himself God.

I pray you will investigate these things and not just follow a religious system blindly as I did, having been raised in it.

    James 2:14-25

Read the whole thing, however, I find the last verse most interesting. ". . . was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." Read 14-25 prayerfully . . ..

That is the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time. Apparently, he hasn’t been reading the Bible because no where in the Bible does it say that ALL men will go to heaven. That is a complete lie. That was the same thinking Lucifer used when attempting his coup against the Most High. In the end he will taste the lake of fire along with all those who are listening to the so called “Pope.” The Catholic religion is a bunch of man-made mess anyway.

Well if you take the Huffington Post as being a pillar of truth and I can see why everyone her is upset. Yet you take the time and truly research the circumstances, the article and the writer of the original story, you would see that what is reported on this site and by the Huffington Post is BS.

I suppose Christ didn't know what He was talking about when He said: Go and preach, baptize and make disciples. Why do we bother evangelizing then? Why does the Pope need to be head of the Catholics? He can be head of the world, since everyone is saved…No one needs judgement according to his statement.

This was taken way out of context. Catholics don't believe atheists can go to heaven, perhaps purgatory, many Catholics don't believe we even get to heaven right away. You must be completely clean hence purgatory. And nobody gets to the Father except knowing and accepting Jesus. We even say this at Mass that Jesus ' s blood was shed for many but not all (in the sense that not all accept him). Be careful of any article you read on the internet. Do research. I've seen many bizarre ones on Pope Francis latelt. This is what sadly comes as a con for being more exposed through the media.

Jennifer, ____Where in the Bible exactly is the teaching on 'purgatory'? ____We need to be 'completely clean'…yes! But only Jesus can cleanse us completely. If we need purgatory to clean us up, why did Jesus have to come down and die? Wasn't His sacrifice enough to make us clean and acceptable to God? According the Catholic Church, if we don't clean ourselves up enough by doing enough good works in this life, then we go to purgatory and suffer there for a while until we are clean enough to be accepted into heaven. That is not taught anywhere in the Bible. The Bible says all our good works are like filthy rags in God's sight. We cannot clean ourselves up because we are wicked sinners. As such, we are helpless to earn our own salvation. ___(to be continued)

        continued:
What does 'knowing and accepting Jesus" mean? Those words are thrown around a lot today, but what does the Bible say? It says we must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God. And to be born again, one must first recognize that he is a wretched sinner..one who is totally helpless and has no means at all of gaining heaven on his own or even in part. To be born again, a person places his complete trust in Christ and in His sacrifice alone for salvation…not on any works he has done or will do in the future. Works are the result of salvation and not the means to it. "He made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." (2Corn5:21) Our righteousness comes from Him alone. It cannot be earned. "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. " (2Corn 5:17) The way of salvation is much more than 'knowing and accepting' Jesus. It is the supernatural work of God. He does it all and we can add nothing to it.

Salvation it this: recognizing you are a helpless wretched sinner, crying out to God to save you through Christ and trusting in Christ completely to make you fit for heaven. Then…resting in Him knowing you are safe in 'His everlasting arms'.

Christians can have complete assurance they will get to heaven 'right away' after their death. 'To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord' if one is truly born again.

I understand what you have been taught because I was raised Catholic myself. Reading the Bible opened my eyes to many erroneous and unbiblical things I had been taught. All I can say is read the Bible for yourself and trust what it says. Men will mislead you but the Word of God never will.

Everyone who has on here any country WHO has LOVE inside him or her and is a good person even if has a different religion background and has no clue about Jesus Christ will go to heaven…ppl who think otherwise exercise FEAR and fear keeps them judgmental….therefore wrong minded..

Chris, How do you back up the things you are saying? Where do your beliefs come from? The Bible does not teach that good people go to heaven. If the Bible is not your guide to truth, what is your guide? What is your standard of truth? Just your feelings about these things? God gave us His Word, the revelation of who He is and what He expects from us. Problem is many people do not like the God of the Bible. So they invent a God in their own minds, one that they feel comfortable with, one who will not rock their boat…a nice big friendly get-along guy in the sky. But that is a make-believe God. The Bible says that God is holy and no matter how hard we try we can never measure up and be good enough for heaven…not even the best of us. The Bible says God loved people so much He sent His Son to live a perfect life, to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus laid down His life for sinners. Our sin debt can be canceled and we can be made holy and acceptable to God, but only through the means He has provided…the sacrifice of His Son, only through faith in Christ. Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven. That is not judgmental…it is the truth…the loving truth! Perfect love casts out all fear. In Christ, there is no fear of the judgment from a holy God. We can be secure and know we are heaven bound. You are 'wrong-minded' when you ignore what scripture clearly teaches and trust in manmade religious ideas.. __"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." Romans 1:16

    he didn't say that

    February 12, 2014 at 4:14 PM

      He did say it:

'We will meet one another there'. (heaven) The redeemed are only those who put their faith in Christ alone for salvation. The pope is wrong in saying everyone is redeemed by the Blood of Christ. Not biblical.
