A little leaven…

Bread rolls

Today on the program, we’re looking at some news headlines through the lens of our faith. Why do we do that? Because we should be looking at everything that touches our lives in that way. Our faith in Christ’s saving grace shapes our view of the world, in light of what God’s Word says.

So among the many topics you’re going to hear about today: Discipleship, Progressive Christianity, the First Amendment, apologetics, and peace.  And we’d love to hear from you on any of the topics. Joining us in the first half is our guest, Scott Alan Buss. He is the author of several books including a new one releasing today:The Beginning of Knowledge – Christ as Truth in Apologetics.  Check out Scott’s blog here, as well as his other books, Fire Breathing Christians: The Common Believer’s Call to Reformation, Revival, and Revolution and “Apathetic Christianity: The Zombie Religion of American Churchianity.” He’s got a new book coming out in a few days called

Going through all the verses that speak of the mark of the beast, I cannot find in the text anything that supports the mark being a metaphor. I agree that being in the beast system at all is a condition of the heart and whether or not we belong to Christ.
In v13:16, it is saying "he causes all…to receive a mark ( GK: charagma, scratch or etching, stamp (as in a badge of servitude) sculptured figure, graven mark
The idea that the beast "causes" seems to be of a more dynamic nature.
What is parallel with the 'mark' is the name of the beast, the number of his name, the mark of his name
In v16:2, those with the mark receive a "foul and loathsome sore". It appears that 'worshiping his image" is something that they are engaged in, beyond just an attitude of their heart.

Rev 13:16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads,
17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
14:9 …."If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand,
14:11and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."
Rev 15:2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God.
Rev 16:2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.
Anyone who truly belongs to Christ will never have to "worry" about receiving some mark that plugs one into the beast system. The system and the antichrist will be very evident to the saints.
Blessings to you, I appreciate your work.

This is really sad, this man, Scott Alan Buss, is just another man who massages the Scriptures to fit his article, book, blog post or speaking engagement. It takes a vivid and even wild imagination to go from the Scriptures in Revelation to the fantasy presented by Buss and call the two compatible.

    One in Four Hundred
    By Robert Winkler Burke
Book #6 of In That Day Teachings
    12/06/09 http://www.inthatdayteachings.com

Where’s the one in four hundred?
    I want to know!
Where’s the one in four hundred?
    Where did he go?

It’s the ratio in the Bible,
    Of truth to lies,
It’s the ratio of false prophets,
    To good! Surprised?

I don’t want to kill four hundred prophets,
    As Elijah did,
    I just don’t want,
    Truth hid.

    Consider four hundred prophets!
Where do you suppose is each?
    Well, probably rapture, and slouch,
    And prosperity: they’d preach!

That’s foul enough for four hundred,
    But not good for me,
What would the one in four hundred,
    Truly, truly see?

That preachers can be a controlling,
    Get along crowd,
    Loving four hundred, hating one,
    Their pride: loud!

If the bottom line of four hundred,
Is fear and greed and slouch,
What would the one opposing them say?
That would make them say, ouch!

    The one would say,
    Jesus comes!
    In the true heart,
    Jesus comes!

And you can see Jesus come in others,
    If you don’t have pride!
The four hundred crowd would really hate this!
    Why? Because it’s bona fide!

You see, if Jesus comes in others,
You’d have to honor them and that!
    Prideful pontificators,
Would have to eat hubris hat!

Where is the one in four hundred?
    Being ignored!
And the prophets of four hundred?
    Being gorged!

    One cries,
    To his God,
    Am I,
    Or not: odd?

    I AM,
    Is in,
    All of,
    High Him!

    Four hundred die,
    One lives,
    Four hundred lie,
    One gives.

    Truth lives forever,
    While the rest dies,
    Four hundred lie,
    One, no. Surprised?
