The Gospel, the Church, and the Supreme Court

In the book of Ephesians, Paul tells us our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. He encourages us to put on the full armor of God for this battle for the eternal souls of men.

Every effective army is comprised of strong focused leaders and committed followers. As we see the church in America being generally ineffective in sharing the gospel and making true disciples for Christ, we have to wonder if the problem is weak leadership; disinterested, uncommitted followers, or both. We cover an article by Peter Heck in our second segment titled, “Maybe the Problem isn’t the Church… Maybe it’s You.”

In our first segment we talk with author Preston Condra of watchman.org about his new book By Which We are Saved: Sharing the Gospel with Confidence. Why are we failing to share the gospel of salvation with our friends and families?

Who’s in Charge of the ‘Kingdom Now’?

A crucial doctrine of Christianity is the eventual return of Jesus Christ to judge all men and establish His everlasting Kingdom. Sadly, Bible prophecy is ignored in many churches so Christians are left to their own to try to understand that glorious day when our Lord returns to vanquish evil.

One question I love to ask professing Christians is this: When Jesus returns what does the world look like and what does He do? If their answer involves us, human beings establishing universal justice or cleaning up the world of poverty and pollution, then I know I am dealing with someone who embraces what is called “Dominion theology.” This is the idea that when men clean up the earth Jesus returns and we simply “hand over the keys” to Him so to speak. This is a dangerous form of Humanism, elevating man and discounting God.

One arm of Dominion Theology is called “Kingdom Now” theology and this morning we are joined by Pastor Andy Woods who has written several books discussing this movement.

What is the Problem in the Church?

In Matthew 16:18, the “church” is first mentioned in God’s Word as Jesus tells Peter that his revelation ‘Jesus is the Christ’ is the rock upon which Jesus will build His church. And “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Jesus established His church to spread the gospel and equip Christians to walk as His disciples, living as he lived in obedience to the Father. The Christian Church should starkly contrast secular culture and be light in an increasingly dark world. But is this happening in America? A strong argument can be made that the church is increasingly ineffective in transforming lives and the culture we live in.

Who is to blame for this problem? Is it church leadership failing to equip the believers? Or is it the people they lead? People who want enough Jesus to be saved, but not enough to be transformed into living a life holy and pleasing to God?

We explore these questions this morning with Dave Wager of Nicolet Bible Institute.

So Many Questions… Only One Source for Truth

Every week we receive hundreds of emails, phone calls and texts from you, Stand Up for the Truth listeners, asking questions or making comments about the biblical issues we address on the program. I wish we had the time to respond to each one personally, but it is near impossible.

Today, we start a brand new regular segment where we share as many of your comments and questions as we can to hopefully help encourage and inform others with similar questions or concerns.

Our standard but important disclaimer: We will give the best advice and answers we can based on our understanding of God’s Word. But you must always rely on the Bible first, as the only source of eternal, inerrant, sufficient truth.

Thanks to listener questions, the subjects covered on today’s program are: church discipline, Andy Stanley’s series ‘Who Needs God,’ The Shack, apathy in the Christian church, United Church of God theology, IF Gathering led by Jennie Allen, Is Calvinism heresy, fundamental Christian truth vs liberal ‘feeling’ theology, moral relativism, examining the evidence proving the reliability of Scripture.

One of the things addressed on today’s program was Sozo prayer.

Prophecy & the Flood of Noah

Today we revisit one of the most basic and debated topics involving our understanding of God and this world: Creation. Is there an intelligent ‘Designer’ and if so, how long ago did He create the Heavens and the earth? Does the age of the earth matter? What about Noah and the Great Flood – true history or a clever fable taught to young children in Sunday school?

These are important questions, and the Bible has the answers – if we are honestly pursuing truth and are open to revisiting some of our assumptions about God and creation based on what we were taught and told by man. Jay Seegert (TheStartingPointProject) helps us sort all this out today thanks to his expertise on the subject and clear explanation.

Using “The Shack” for God’s Glory

The Shack is a very controversial book within professing Christian circles that is now out in a movie that many professing Christians are excited to see. And Christian churches, ministries and radio stations (not ours) are promoting it heavily under the guise that it can be a tool to share the gospel with unsaved friends. But there is a slight problem: the true gospel does not even remotely appear in the book or the movie.

This morning we discuss The Shack with James Walker of Watchman.org and look at the life and theology of the author, comparing the movie’s theology with the Word of God. And we will attempt to equip you to accomplish what the promoters are claiming the movie can do: reach the lost with the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

Reasons for Hope Despite Increased Attacks on Bible

Already in the first week of this month, we’ve heard about stories that reinforce the fact our culture, our country, and this world just seem to keep spinning out of control. The truth however, is that the God of the universe and author of Creation has never left his throne.

Disney is getting backlash over its recent promotion of LGBTQ agenda which features a gay moment in the new Beauty and the Beast, Satanists are seeking religious rights in America, a UK court considers reading the Bible out loud a criminal matter, and the radical Alinsky left in this nation is keeping its foot on the gas pedal of their anti-American agenda. There’s so much going on we must get back to the basics and remember who is in control.

Though the world and things around us appear to be falling apart, the Bible teaches us things are actually falling into place. Many solid pastors and ministry leaders in the committed remnant of true believers remind us we are living in the greatest times of biblical prophecy since Jesus walked the earth. We must hold loosely the things of this world as we set our hearts and minds on things above.

Today’s guest is Carl Kerby, the President of Reasons for Hope Inc. Carl shares his extensive knowledge and understanding of God’s creation. Providing answers for difficult questions, Carl inspires people to dig deeply into God’s Word to debunk the lies and myths that attack the Christian faith.

The Three Stages of Islamic Jihad

America and the Christian churches in it are rapidly reaching a crossroad when it comes to Islam. Islam in its teachings calls for world wide domination and submission to Allah, the false god of Islam. Unbelievers, those Islam refers to as “infidels,” either convert to Islam, face very punitive restrictions, or sometimes they are put to death. This is the “jihad” taught in the Quran. Jihad has three unique stages, each one building power upon the other. As Muslim presence increases, pressure is applied on a nation and its people to conform or face dire consequences. Elijah Abraham, a former Muslim and now born-again believer joins us this morning. to explain what’s happening in the states and what Christians can do.

Messing with Our Minds

The Bible warns of a coming one world government and religion so deceptive that if possible, even the elect would be deceived. There are many speculations on what this one world religion will look like. Mike LeMay has written a new book The Death of Christian Thought where he identifies Humanism, self-worship, as this coming one world religion. He also explains that we are being slowly indoctrinated into it every day. In Matthew 7, Jesus warns that many who think they will be going to heaven will instead be cast into eternal separation from God. One reason Mike wrote his book is to address professing Christians to heed Jesus’ words.

Ha also asks some challenging questions about how culture is shaping our thoughts and worldview:

How are we being indoctrinated and who is behind this devious plot?

How can we reject Humanism and stay faithful to God and His Word in these increasingly dangerous times?

Why are a growing number of church fellowships ineffective in sharing the gospel and equipping believers for the work of His kingdom?

And why are an increasing number of Christian couples not enjoying the fruit of strong, healthy marriages such as f love, joy , good communication, mutual submission and peace? These are a few of the questions Mike tackles in his book and we discuss during today’s program.

Questioning Evangelism

No, we don’t mean we are questioning the necessity and value of sharing the gospel; we mean using questions in our conversations with others to share the good news of Jesus Christ. How many times do we try to witness to lost people only to find our efforts thwarted by people who seem like they have their minds made up and just don’t want to hear what we are saying?

We look to the example of Jesus who often taught using questions. Joining us today is Jay Seegert to discuss the power of asking questions and how to get people to think.

Deception is Rampant, but What is Truth?

In John 18:38, Pontius Pilate asks Jesus one of the single greatest questions of the entire Bible: “What is truth?” That question is just as important today. It might seem like a very simple question, but when we see how the definition of truth has been twisted and redefined these days, it is vital to clarify from the Word of God.

We are also seeing the subsequent trouble our culture and the church is in, so there is no greater challenge facing us today than to define truth as God defines it instead of following the world and changing the definition to feed our flesh.

Cindy Hartline of Love for the Truth Radio joins us this morning to discuss truth and how it has been redefined to fit the agenda of sinful man.

In our second segment, David Fiorazo has our weekly Media Watch segment as we help you see the clever deception of secular media and how they attempt to indoctrinate people into their agenda.

Sliding into Humanism, Moral Relativism

I wrote my latest book, The Death of Christian Thought, to warn Christians how the dangerous lies of Humanism were infiltrating the hearts and minds of an increasing number of professing Christians, leading many away from God and toward eternal damnation. This morning in our second segment we cover a recent study that shows just how bad things are getting as the spiritual beliefs of younger people stray further and further away from the truth of God and His Word.

In our first segment we talk with Pastor Randy White about a very interesting book by Dave Breese titled Seven Men Who Rule the World from the Grave. We’ll look at seven men whose anti-Christian beliefs and philosophies continue to strongly influence people and society long after their deaths.
