Well, May 21st passed and no rapture or final judgment from God. Sadly, thousands spent all their money on billboards and contributions to Harold Camping to help deliver a message that any devoted Christian should know is a reckless statement.

Jesus plainly told his apostles that only God the Father knew the exact hour of His return. Yet that never stops men from trying to play God and draw attention to themselves. Harold Camping was not the first, nor will he be the last person to recklessly claim he has figured out when Jesus would return.

There are many tragedies that came about from Camping’s false teaching. It is reported that millions of dollars poured into his organization over the past few months to help him spread his false message. So, Mr. Camping, what will you do with this sudden wealth? Will you give it back to these misled people? Or will you keep it to continue your misleading work that brings a black eye to true Christianity?

The real tragedy is that so many who call themselves Christians fell for this hoax. And this fiasco will serve to discredit the church in the eyes of many. The reality is Jesus said we could not know the exact hour, but that if we carefully read the scriptures and observed the times, we could know when he was preparing to return.

And many Christian leaders who study scripture and pray believe we are indeed in the season when Jesus could return at any time. Unfortunately because of people like Camping, many in the world will choose to ignore solid biblical teaching and revelation that could help them prepare for the return of Jesus.

So, as bible believing Christians, what do we do with this fiasco? We keep on doing what we are called by Jesus to do. We share the gospel with our friends, family and the world. We continue moving forward, undaunted by false teachers and false prophets. After all, Jesus warned there would be many in the final days.

And one more thing—let’s pray for Harold Camping and those he deceived. I am a strong believer in Romans 8:28 Christianity. That God, in all things, will work for the good of those who love Him and have been called to His purpose. Our God will turn this fiasco into something for His glory. And he calls upon us to be a part of what he is doing.

So, we move forward as God’s children. We remain strong in Him, sharing His Word with all those we encounter. One day, maybe very soon, Jesus will return to establish His Kingdom and judge mankind. In the meantime, we continue our work—making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That is our Great Commission—let’s carry it out with great passion, strength and commitment.
