If you hear someone say, “the Emergent Church is dead,” or “Liberalism and Christianity do not mix,” don’t buy what they’re selling. It has never been more alive or dangerous. It has made inroads into several churches and denominations and continues to draw our youth away from Biblical doctrine and truth.
Censorship and Fascism do not happen overnight. It is a slow process starting from a faulty premise that somehow people have a “right” to not be offended. It then grows into something very ugly; a censorship where you risk your freedom – and maybe even your life – when you dare state an opinion that offends someone in power.
Eric Barger joins us for an encore presentation of our show from December. Eric is President of Take a Stand Ministries and co-hosts “Understanding the Times” with Jan Markell. He is an expert on the dangers of emergent theology.
QUOTES from today’s interview:
I think the parallels between America and Nazi Germany that are taking place right now are stunning. We have a generation not paying attention to history. Eric Barger
The government creates problems and our founding fathers understood what would happen when the people realized they could vote themselves money from the U.S. treasury. -Eric Barger
They gradually reeducated sincere believers into this new form of Christianity based upon feelings instead of sound doctrine. Social programs, community service, and good works have replaced salvation by grace. Once people’s theology becomes corrupted, the gospel is emptied of its power. Liberals have continued to use “the shell of the church” to collect money from the congregants and to gain more power. Liberalism claiming to be Christianity is the most dangerous cult in the world today.
This is really a battle for the Bible when you get right down to it – it’s the offense of Scripture. Will Christian conservatives stand on the truth of God’s Word or not? Liberal politics often overrule what the Holy Spirit wants to do in a believer’s life. Eric Barger
God has used this nation greatly, but He has removed His hand and has left us up to our own devices. True Christians need to be prepared for what may come down the road.
We can trace liberalism back to the so-called “German Enlightenment,” notably through the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, who argued human reason is the source of all morality. Eric Barger
Our freedom of speech, particularly biblical speech will be the first thing to go. Wherever there is persecution, those in the real church seem to be more engaged in sharing the gospel and involved in culture.
The enemy doesn’t need to take ground he already has so he is not threatened by religious liberals in the emergent church. Satan will attack those who stand on God’s Word and live it out in their lives.
We are in a war for the souls of men and for the ability and right to preach the gospel in what we thought was a free country. Eric Barger
Mike ended the program with Ephesians 2:1-10:
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
