Two important topics for discussion on air this morning. First we check in with Jay Seegert.
We also look at an article pointing out just how far America has fallen from its trust in, and reliance on, God. It is clear that the Bible inspired many of our founding fathers to establish our Constitution–the very Constitution our President and Courts seem to shred at every opportunity. This morning we look at stark contrasts to what our founders believed and what America represents today.
Points made by Jay Seegert to recap significance of this issue:
- This is not really about the age of the earth (rather, the authority of God’s Word)
- Young earth… it sounds absolutely CRAZY!
- Don’t make the age of the earth your “starting point” in a discussion
- Not a matter of salvation
- Science… “Johnny come-lately”
There are NO clocks in nature! People assume there are numerous “clocks” in nature that are capable of telling us exactly how old the Earth is.
Most methods yield ages far too young – even if we accept all the assumptions behind the various dating methods, 90%of them yield ages far too young for a big bang or evolution.
Evidence for a young Earth/universe
- Earth’s magnetic field
- Polystrate fossils
- Folded rocks
- Biological material… where it shouldn’t be
- *Soft tissue & red blood cells in dinosaur bones
- *bacteria ~ 2 billion years (http://crev.info/2016/06/precambrian-protein)
- Carbon 14… where it shouldn’t be
- Most mutations w/in past 200
During the second half of today’s Stand Up broadcast, we discussed:
Newsweek magazine, on December 27, 1982, in an article entitled, “How the Bible Made America,” made this revealing statement, “historians are discovering that the Bible, perhaps even more than the Constitution, is our Founding document.”
To understand the core values of a nation, one must simply look to the beliefs set forth during its conception, and, in the case of America, during the transitional years of the American Revolution. Judge for yourself how far we have drifted from the original intent of early Americans.
Then: If a proposed article for the Constitution was not supported by, or rooted in the Bible, it was not considered. In their early writings, many of the Founding Fathers quoted or referenced the Bible nearly four times more than any other source.
Now: Even though creation screams “Creator,” the Bible is mocked, ridiculed, and discarded. To suggest that the universe was created by random chance and that humans came from primordial ooze, is the height of arrogance. “Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God'” (Psalm 14:1)…
From Harvard to Yale, from the Supreme Court to the local courts and the public school system, historically, the theme remained the same — God’s Word was to be the foundation on which America was built!
As yet another example, consider the 1642 Rules and Precepts of Harvard University founded by Reverend John Harvard: “Let every student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3).” The Rules continue, “and therefore to lay Christ in the bottom, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning.”
Most public schools and universities abandoned Christ and the Scriptures decades ago so our question is: Whose ‘truth’ are they teaching these days? It certainly is not God’s truth.
