Since 1984, Eric Barger has traveled across the US and Canada presenting his unique mix of teaching and evangelism through “Take A Stand!” Ministries as he speaks at seminars, conferences, churches and Christian schools. As part of Eric’s apologetics ministry, he confronts both culture and the Church as he focuses on the Cults, World Religions, the Occult, Spiritual Warfare, as well as troubling trends and doctrinal issues facing Christians in these last days. His ministry exists “to see the lost saved and the church changed by the power of Jesus Christ.”
It’s so easy to be overwhelmed in our fast-paced, instant everything society, but were we really meant to live this way? So much is coming at us and our families at warp speed it can be hard to keep up – especially with the massive amounts of news and information on every front.
When people, particularly Christians feel bombarded by the world; the increase of immorality, the promotion of the perverse, and the direction of America; it’s understandable why they check out and do whatever is necessary to turn off all the noise.
The problem is one way some folks avoid distractions and disruptions is to seek pleasure or entertainment, ignore reality, and even isolate ourselves. When we do this, we disengage rather than obeying Jesus’ instruction to be the salt and light so desperately needed in society.
Instead of piercing the darkness with the light of the gospel and truth of Christ, we often choose silence and stay as far away as possible, keeping to ourselves for the most part. We can not impact our culture for Christ by doing this.
We plan on examining this issue with someone who truly understands the times.
On today’s program, David Fiorazo interviews Eric Barger to discuss the problem Christians run into when we turn to secular entertainment to escape reality; things such as bad music, TV, Pokemon Go or politics.
Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols. 17 So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present. Acts 17:17
I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:1-4
Thus says the Lord,
“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths,
Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
17 “And I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, ‘We will not listen.’
18 “Therefore hear, O nations,
And know, O congregation, what is among them.
19 “Hear, O earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people,
The fruit of their plans,
Because they have not listened to My words,
And as for My law, they have rejected it also. Jeremiah 6:16-19
