With all the media distractions and distortions about President Trump and Russia and healthcare and travel bans, we tend to forget the importance of Israel and the Middle East. Dr. Andy Woods is back with us today. He discusses the nations of Turkey and Russia among others, Israel, Rome, and Babylon (modern day Iraq). We also discuss a few Supreme Court decisions and the importance of standing for the truth of God’s Word in a loving but uncompromising way – even in an anti-Christian culture.
SCRIPTURES IN ORDER OF MENTION
And the word of the Lord came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. 4 I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords; 5 Persia, Ethiopia and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer with all its troops; Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you. Exekiel 38:1-6
Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?’” Ezekiel 38:13
Why is it important to read and study the Old Testament? Even Christians have departed from the truth of creation in Genesis and the OT which Jesus clearly cited as truth:
Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?” 4 And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” Matthew 19:3-6
PROPHECIES about Babylon – Isaiah 13 and 14
What about Replacement Theology? There are prophecies concerning Israel in the Old Testament that have not been fulfilled. This is an issue of God’s faithfulness and the integrity of Scripture.
From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; 29 for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now have been shown mercy because of their disobedience, 31 so these also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy. 32 For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all. Romans 11:28-30
