President, Pacific Justice Institute
Brad Dacus has coordinated religious freedom and parental rights cases throughout the western United States. And in 1997, founded the Pacific Justice Institute, where he continues to defend religious liberties and parental rights without charge. The Pacific Justice Institute has a network with hundreds of volunteer affiliate attorneys and handles more cases on the West Coast than any other organization of its kind.
In our final segment today we offer a solution to the Public Education mess we see as discussed from the crisis at Washington Middle School in Green Bay. The solution is simple, but not easy. It will require qualities sadly lacking these days: courage and conviction.
First up, we are joined by Brad Dacus of The Pacific Justice Institute to discuss legal cases threatening the religious freedom and conviction of Christians in our nation. Even his organization has been labeled a ‘hate’ group’ by the radical Southern Poverty Law Center. Has the Progressive/Marxist juggernaut grown so strong that it is inevitable? If not, what can we do to fight it and restore biblical principles in our nation?
Here is Mike’s transcript from segment 3:
There is a petition being circulated to fire Green Bay Public School Superintendent Michelle Langenfeld because of the testimony of a decorated teacher who had the courage to resign and tell officials just what is going on at Washington Middle School. The school has been classified by some as a “war zone” where some students are threatening, bullying and intimidating not only other students but school teachers and administrators. The school has had 6 principals in 7 years! I have spoken with other teachers at the school and they tell me that the problem is even worse than what we are hearing publicly.
What is happening at Washington Middle School is not isolated—it is a warning sign. Left unaddressed this will spread to other schools. Look at big cities like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles as examples. And an already confused and misguided generation of youth will feel more and more hopeless and lost.
It may indeed be time for new leadership in the public school system. But this might also just be like changing captains on the Titanic as the ship sinks. The system is broken and changing leaders will not change the problems. When God is not welcome in our public education system, just what do we expect? When the teacher’s Union—the NEA—espouses anarchy and revolution by encouraging teachers to adapt Saul Alinsky “Rules for Radicals” tactics why should we expect our students to respect authority?
The only solution is one the Public School System is unwilling to go with: A return to the Christian Education principles our nation was established upon. Even if the School Board decided to take a big turn away from their atheist, left-wing trend we have seen implemented over the past fifty years they would be met with legal and government opposition. Organizations like The Southern Poverty Law Center and Freedom From Religion would organize law suits and pressure. And the schools and the insurers who provide protection would probably fold like cheap suits to avoid the potential of millions of dollars in legal damages. The Federal Government would bring its might and threat to cut off funding to bear full force, and the school officials would feel enormous pressure.
Does the School District need new leadership? Probably…but don’t expect radical change. The system is corrupt and broken…possibly beyond repair. The only solution is getting our children out of government schools and enrolling them in solid Christian education.
It is time for Christian Churches to show some leadership. There are alternatives:
- Partnering significantly with local Christian Schools like Providence Academy, Grace Christian Academy and NEW Lutheran. Start offering church member funded scholarships and tuition assistance to member families who want to send their Children to a classical Christian School.
- Look at partnering with organizations like Freedom Project Academy. They are working with Christian Churches around the country to help churches become “home school facilitators” where Church members can drop their children off at church and go through an on line classical educations curriculum. And since Freedom Project Academy does not offer religious courses, take an hour of the school day to teach our children the Bible. I know—a radical thought.
- Start to combat, in youth group and in church gatherings, what is being taught in public schools about abortion, creation and sexuality.
But I doubt we have the courage to do these things as a church. We have become comfortable, depending on nickels and noses for “growth”. We would rather not make anyone uncomfortable by suggesting members Home School or send their children to Christian schools. We fear offending man more than we do offending God.
In Matthew 18:5-6 Jesus said this:
“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
When we send our children off to public schools they are being taught that God did not create every person fearfully and wonderfully; instead they are accidents of a random universe. They are being taught that sexual promiscuity is completely acceptable; and that if those actions lead to an unwanted pregnancy simply choose to kill a life through abortion. They are being taught that God did not “create them male or female”; instead gender is fluid and whatever you want it to be on any given day. We as parents and church leaders will be accountable to God for what our children are learning.
We have said it a hundred times on this show over the past 7 years: The Christian Church either affects secular culture; or it will become infected by it. And while there are still solid biblical churches out there, one cannot deny that as a collective institution the Church is not affecting the secular culture—but rather it seems to be adapting to it and being radically infected by it.
Appointing a new Public School Superintendent might be the right move—but unless Christian Churches and families understand the real cause and root of our problems in public education, nothing will change.
Until progressive policies that support abortion, evolution and sexual confusion in our schools are replaced with a return to the values and principles of the God who created and will one day judge us, nothing will really change. Or any change will only be painting over rust—the corrosion will continue.
