Seeking Signs, Wonders and Miracles

In Matthew 12:38, the scribes and Pharisees asked Jesus for “another sign” not long after he had healed the sick and a demon-possessed man who was also blind. Jesus responded:”An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign but none will be given except the sign of the prophet Jonah”That “sign” was when Jesus would rise from the grave to prove His deity and God’s power over sin and death. Many Christians and churches today are continually seeking more signs and wonders.  Let’s be clear: some are sincere believers in Christ, but their continual need for additional signs and miracles testifies to the weakness of their faith in the completed work of Jesus on the cross.  We look at a critique from The Gospel Coalition regarding Bethel Church in Redding, California and its leaders Bill and and Beni Johnson, and we discuss the pitfalls of this charismatic movement. In our first segment we visit with author David Richardson to discuss content in his book Transparent – about how our deeply held assumptions can deceive us and hinder us in our walk with God.

Fear of the Lord

Born-again believers and disciples of Jesus Christ have been saved and granted eternal life with God through our belief and faith in the gospel and Jesus Christ.  Yet we are told in God’s Word that we are to have a “fear of the Lord” even as believers.  We are also told he is our “abba Father” and that we can approach His throne with confidence.  So what is a correct “fear of the Lord” in the life of a believer?  Mike and Crash tackle that listener question today. They also discuss the dilemma of professing Christians still believing abortion is OK with God; financial scandals in Christian Churches and ministries; when is it time to leave your church?; the dilemma of so-called “Liberal Christianity”.

An Insider’s Look at the Prosperity Gospel Movement

Benny Hinn is one of the best-known purveyors of the dangerous Prosperity Gospel movement. He has made wild, unfounded claims, twisted scripture to its breaking point, and proclaimed “prophecies received from God” that have not come true. The Bible says that is the first sign of a false prophet. Hinn lives a life of luxury built on the backs of naive followers who want the alleged anointing and the riches that the Prosperity Gospel promises if you just have enough faith.

Hinn’s nephew Costi was on the inside of the movement for years, but God has delivered him from its grip; and now Costi is speaking out against the dangerous teachings of Uncle Benny’s organization. This morning we cover Costi Hinn’s discussion with Justin Peters about his journey into and out of this dangerous heresy.

As with all people who are deceived by a false gospel, we pray that God will open their eyes to the deception and help them see the true nature and character of God.

The New Apostolic Reformation and ‘New Revelation’

The New Apostolic Reformation movement (NAR) is one of the broadest and most powerful movements within Christianity today, yet many do not know about it or how to discern it. The NAR is recognized by claims of modern day apostles, prophets, performing signs and wonders, calls for Christians to take over worldly institutions to prepare for the coming Kingdom of God, and heightened calls of spiritual warfare against demonic spirits with specific names or geographical strong holds. While its ranks are growing, some are warning of the teachings of the movement, concerned with issues like new (extra-biblical) revelation and modern day self-proclaimed “prophets” speaking for God, similar to how the Old Testament prophets delivered the Word of God.

We’re joined by Pastor Gary Gilley who has studied the New Apostolic Reformation Movement in depth and will discuss its doctrines and beliefs.

A Warning Shot to Christians in Government

Last week, Senator Bernie Sanders, who could have been elected President, said some very disturbing things when questioning the President’s nominee for Deputy Director of Management and Budget. Sanders did not question Russel Vought’s financial or management qualifications when grilling him; he questioned if he should be allowed to work in the government because of Vought’s Christian beliefs. Apparently, it all stemmed from a personal statement Vought made on his personal facebook page: “Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ, His Son, and they stand condemned.”

According to God’s Word, Vought is correct and that seemed to drive Sanders crazy. Also today in our Rightly Handling the Word segment we discuss “Seed Faith Offering” statements that television preachers often use to get people to give to their organizations. Just what does God actually promise when we give generously, compared to what is promised by these televangelists?

Is Bigger Always Better?

We have been blessed in so many ways in America. But our sinful, selfish nature always drives us to want more and more things of this world. Want more money? Just have enough faith and boldness to declare it from God. Want a bigger church? Use clever man-made marketing schemes, entertainment methods, and minimize sin and the gospel’s demand of holy living; then watch the church grow in numbers.

Is our obsession with “bigger is better” undermining the gospel message and leading people away from God? Pastor Gary Gilley joins us to discuss prosperity preaching and the church growth movement. Are we giving people what they want or what they need? Both? What did the disciples do?

This morning we cover several interesting news stories including a new college movement that says demanding students or workers show up on time might be racist oriented. In our first segment Robert Meyer of Renew America joins us to discuss the condition of religious freedom for Christians in America and dissects President Trump’s announcement attacking The Johnson Amendment, aimed at restricting political commentary from the pulpit.

Is Christian Persecution in America Just Around the Corner?

Today we take another look at the state of Christianity in America and discuss the real hostility and discrimination against believers in Christ, as well as the possibility the gospel may soon be banned in our nation.  We discuss the so-called Equality Act and its threat to Bible-believing Christians, and explain how the church itself has practically opened the door to welcome discrimination against God’s truth and the gospel. Why? Because we want to be loved by a world that hates Jesus and His Word.

Dismantling the Lies of the Enemy

The only way to dismantle lies is to respectfully confront them with truth. We try doing this on our radio program when it comes to lies not only in our culture but sadly, within churches in America. Our guest is a professional ‘lie-debunker’ and travels around the world sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with people deceived by the clever deception of the enemy.

Today’s guest is Carl Kerby of Reasons for Hope Ministry! He’s back to talk about their video series titled “debunked” and the impact it is having in spreading the truth, love and grace of the gospel.

“…but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15
