Did You Ever Imagine These Things Could Happen?

The response to our Listener shows on Fridays where we talk about your questions and comments has been overwhelmingly positive! It’s been great hearing from so many Christians every week, but is has now reached the point where we have continually been unable to get to all of the comments in a one hour Friday show. This has been a consistent pattern over the last several months and we typically carry them over to the next week. So in our second segment today, we will take some additional time to read your comments and answer your questions.

First, we will listen to and discuss a thought-provoking message from Jan Markell of Understanding the Times Radio titled “I Never Thought I Would See the Day.” This program just aired over the weekend across the country. We’ll also share our thoughts on the events and happenings in our lifetime that have been disappointing or shocking.

Tomorrow we will continue with YOUR comments and questions about: Billy Graham, gun control, Christian marriages, transgenderism, the political divide, Roman Catholic “last rites,” and believers being unequally yoked – to mention a few!

More discussion on Calvinism vs. Arminianism

Your Comments & Questions

Good morning Christians…it’s Friday! OK, apologies to our more seasoned listeners who know that is a knockoff of the late Paul Harvey’s Friday radio greeting. But we really do love Fridays here at Stand Up For the Truth because we turn the show’s topics over to you. Your questions and comments are the focus and here are some of the things we’ll be discussing today:

Advice on starting a home church
Reconciling salvation by grace and the fruit of our works in the teachings of the Bible
“Little gods” theology espoused by many word faith preachers
The New Age promoted at your local YMCA
What to do when your boss asks you to stop reading your Bible during lunch hour bc some are offended
The Mark of the Beast in the book of Revelation; voluntary or forced?
Why do so few liberals speak up against Islam?
And an angry letter from a (Christian?) listener who says to “judge ye not” but claims there is a special place in hell for Christian conservatives who call out the sin of homosexuality and lesbianism.

Christians’ Diverse Views on Morality, Friday Q&A

Absolutely no subject is off limits! On today’s show we answer your questions and read your comments from the week on any topic you want to discuss.

But first we take a look at the mounting chaos and confusion in our nation and ask if our nation is on the verge of a total meltdown of morality and common sense. Our self-proclaimed “One Nation Under God” has become anything but that as radical liberal forces continue to sew seeds of confusion and discontent, and our public schools continue to indoctrinate our children into godless humanism.

Five Big Deceptions, Listener Comments, and Church Security

There can be little doubt the LGBTQ movement has gained both momentum and power in America and sadly, within too many churches. Now with the transgender part of the LGBTQ being rolled out, the Left is winning the battle for the public square in part by having successfully shaped public opinion over the past several decades. It’s interesting this directly correlates with a growth in biblical illiteracy and an increasing belief that the Bible is not the inerrant Word of God.

Today we discuss five of the biggest deceptions being perpetrated on Christians and the American people by transgender movement.  Since most media, government and public education caved to political correctness and increasing pressure from the LGBTQ camp, these lies and delusions are now repeated so often that most simply accept them as being true.

The majority of today’s program – as it is each Friday now – is dedicated to your comments and questions from the week on a variety of topics. And no subject is off limits.

The Dangers of Artificial Intelligence

AI, or “Artificial Intelligence” is making huge strides within the scientific community with many predicting that in the next decade or so it will present endless possibilities for the future of mankind. But many, including some on the inside of this pioneering work, are warning of extreme potential dangers as we trust AI with more and more of the duties God assigned to man.

We will also get to your comments about Christians participating in or celebrating Halloween. Is the chance to evangelize, or just give our children a night of fun, worth being a part of the festivities? Is Halloween redeemable? Our listeners have very strong opinions on this.

First segment, we check in with Don Veinot of Midwest Christian Outreach to discuss some of the ways we are being deceived by dialogue and discussions in society these days, and we also look at what Don calls “The worst sermon ever.”

Open Warfare on Christian Values and Conscience

The City of DePere, Wisconsin–where our radio station resides–is proposing an “anti-discrimination” mandate that would openly challenge and threaten Christian churches, ministries and businesses, mandating that they accommodate people who are confused about their gender. It strictly prohibits any place of public accommodation from “denying directly or indirectly any person the full enjoyment of goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages and accommodations wholly or partly for a discriminatory reason.”

This language is so broad that it will no doubt be used to force people of religious conscience to serve and even hire people who openly live a lifestyle contradictory to the Bible’s teachings. And if you do not think this would be a foot in the door to eventually force churches to hire homosexuals and transgenders and perform same-sex wedding ceremonies, I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

This is not just about bathrooms. It is about the government opening the door for business owners and religious organizations to accommodate, include, serve and hire people who oppose and hate God and Christianity. When that happens, we cease to be a unique people called by God to be sanctified and stand out in a world full of sin.

After covering this story today we also read your comments and questions from the week.

Willow Creek Pastor Bill Hybels to Retire; Names Successor

Founding and Senior Pastor Bill Hybels has announced his retirement effective October, 2018. He will remain as “founding pastor” and oversee the expansion of Willow Creek’s Association that provides services and resources to churches and also the Willow Creek Leadership Summit.

Hybels and Willow Creek are no strangers to controversy. The WC Leadership Summit has elevated people like Bill Clinton, Rob Bell and several corporation executives as “leaders to emulate” even though many of them are not even Christians and support homosexual marriage and abortion. Some people believe this is incorporating the ways of the world into the church.

His wife Lynne openly opposes the nation of Israel through “Christ at the Checkpoint,” criticizing Israel while giving a pass to the terrorist organizations who kill in the name of Allah. In typical controversial fashion, Hybels is going out with a bang: he has named Heather Larsen his successor to the lead pastor position having the title of Executive Pastor.

Many of you have weighed in on this so we discuss it in the first segment today and then get to more listener questions and comments.

Celebrating Evil, & Listener Friday!

The City of Manitowoc, Wisconsin kicks off its Windigo Fest tonight. “Windigo” is an American Indian folklore about a cannibalistic monster and evil spirit who allegedly possesses humans and becomes monstrous. There is even a modern medical term associated with it these days called “Windigo Psychosis.” Despite protests and concerns from some citizens, the city is allowing this dark event and some are very concerned the city is opening its arms to demonic presence and influence.

And guess who is kicking off the event? Opening with “some prayers for healing from the evil violence shaking our nation,” is a local Presbyterian pastor. So pastor, you are endorsing and participating in an event that celebrates violence and spiritual possession, while praying against violence in our nation?

We also share your comments and questions from the week, including comments from students who received varying reactions to bringing their bibles to school yesterday, gun control, understanding the liberal mindset, and what to do when your children argue with you about going to church.

No More Safe Haven

A very simple observation: As foretold in the Bible the world is growing more and more evil. War in the Middle East could break out at any time as Iran and Turkey vow to destroy Israel; evil regimes possess nuclear, chemical and biological weapons that could devastate humanity; governments grow in power, controlling what we do, say and even think more and more each day.

Humanity collectively thumbs its nose at God. Public education and media pollute the minds of our children, indoctrinating them into a world view that opposes God and His Word.

Historically Christians have two “safe havens” where we could retreat from the insanity and growing evil of this world: Our churches and homes. Well sadly a growing number of churches are selling out to the world so as not to offend it; and now even the privacy of our homes and our very minds are under attack by the dangerous growth of highly invasive technology.

Eric Barger has been extensively researching how technology is being set up to manipulate and one day control us. This morning he joins us to discuss his new series “Home Invasion”.

The Danger of Ignoring the Old Testament

Remember “Cliff’s Notes”? They were short summaries of books that would perhaps give a student enough information to pass an exam on the book, but not enough to understand the depth and importance of the written work. Many of us who were students before the invention of the internet probably relied on Cliff’s Notes more than we should have.

Well, are we as Christians approaching God’s Word with a “Cliff’s Notes” attitude? We understand enough to think we are saved, but we fail to grasp the eternal truth and principles of what God has given us in His Word, often at our own peril. Bible studies tend to concentrate on the New Testament, ignoring the rich history and timeless principles God gave us going back to Genesis.

Pastor Mike Abendroth joins us this morning to discuss one of the most fascinating accounts of the Bible in 1 Kings Chapter 18. The unique list of characters in this account include the Prophet Elijah; Ahab, one of the worst kings of Israel; Jezebel his scheming, idolatrous wife; and the false prophets of the false god Baal. What lessons can we learn and apply from this biblical account to our world today?

Reviving an Increasingly Sleepy Church

As we see the wickedness and evil of this world increase at an alarming rate, the beauty of the bride of Jesus Christ, His Church, should be shining all the more radiantly. But while several churches remain faithful to God and refuse to compromise on His Word, a growing number seek compromise with the world for a variety of reasons. Perhaps fear, money or popularity are ruling the hearts of many church leaders instead of a passion for God and His Word.

But there is another culprit in this problem: A growing number of professing Christians prefer a message from the church that validates the desire of their flesh instead of challenging us to walk in holiness by the power of God’s Word and Spirit. And if the pastor dares teach a message about sin, confession and repentance—well they will just pick up and find a more accepting church where they can feel good about themselves.

Today we take an honest look at why the Christian Church in America is failing to shine brightly and point people to their only hope–the gospel of Jesus Christ–at a time when people feel more hopeless than ever. Pastor Jeff Solwold of Calvary Chapel Church in Madison, Wisconsin joins us for a frank discussion of the crisis we face and the only lasting solution: God and His complete Word.

The Rumblings of a Major Earthquake

Catastrophic earthquakes are often preceded by minor tremors as the earth beneath us begins to prepare for a major shaking. To ignore these tremors is to court disaster as we are unprepared for what is about to happen.

The Bible tells us that in the final days this world will go through cataclysmic change never seen before on both a physical and spiritual level. And many biblical scholars believe we are now witnessing these minor tremors warning us that everything around us is about to change in a very profound and eternal way.

One of these biblical scholars is Pastor Carl Gallups, author of several best-selling books that warn us of what the Bible prophesies in these final days. Are we witnessing the beginning of the end of this world and the soon return of Jesus Christ to judge mankind and establish His everlasting Kingdom?

Meaningful Christian Living & Evangelism

Rick Warren’s “The Purpose Driven Life” was a best seller that got many Christians searching for God’s “purpose” for their lives. Our guest this morning says searching for our “purpose” is a wild goose chase because once you think you’ve found it the world will change its focus and you’ll end up like those dogs we see in videos chasing their tails while getting nowhere fast and becoming dizzy and frustrated. He says rather Christians should focus on the meaning of our lives–something by the way clearly defined in God’s Word.

Pastor Randy White joins us this morning to discuss the difference between purpose and meaning, along with the importance of using Biblical Exposition in evangelism.

We’ll also discuss an intriguing study about how “Generation Z” is the least Christian generation in our nation’s history–and why one Christian researcher thinks that is actually a good thing.
