Willow Creek Pastor Bill Hybels to Retire; Names Successor

Founding and Senior Pastor Bill Hybels has announced his retirement effective October, 2018. He will remain as “founding pastor” and oversee the expansion of Willow Creek’s Association that provides services and resources to churches and also the Willow Creek Leadership Summit.

Hybels and Willow Creek are no strangers to controversy. The WC Leadership Summit has elevated people like Bill Clinton, Rob Bell and several corporation executives as “leaders to emulate” even though many of them are not even Christians and support homosexual marriage and abortion. Some people believe this is incorporating the ways of the world into the church.

His wife Lynne openly opposes the nation of Israel through “Christ at the Checkpoint,” criticizing Israel while giving a pass to the terrorist organizations who kill in the name of Allah. In typical controversial fashion, Hybels is going out with a bang: he has named Heather Larsen his successor to the lead pastor position having the title of Executive Pastor.

Many of you have weighed in on this so we discuss it in the first segment today and then get to more listener questions and comments.

A Church on the Defensive

Today we look at another Christian survey as well as some disturbing news on just how far many professing churches and leaders have fallen. Some are deceived while others are deceiving people into moral relativism, false teachings, and abandoning the truth of God for the faulty wisdom of man. Christian churches should be affecting secular culture. Instead secular culture seems to be infecting many churches.

Forget the ‘Good Old Days’ and Press On!

It’s better to go to a funeral and get a reality check than go to a party. Why? Perspective. Death is a reminder for us (ten out of ten people die) so what are we doing with the life God has given us?

Yes, we might have a hard time forgetting – regardless of whether or not the experiences were happy or sad.

Some of us might look back and say those were happier times while others had such horrific childhoods or painful life experiences, they’re doing the best to overcome the effects of the past. For the Christian, “to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21). Joy is a fruit of the Spirit and the joy of the Lord is our strength. Happiness is temporary and depends on circumstances as well as our perception of things. True joy however, is a gift from God. Press on in Him, dear friend.

God is Love

In the book of 1 John, the writer tells us God is love. In fact He loves so perfectly that He provided every person the opportunity to be forgiven of our sins and to spend eternity with Him through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. Greater love than this the world has never known.

God loves all His creation, but does He love all men equally? Are we all “children” of God? And is God’s love and provision alone enough for mankind to spend eternity in Heaven? Pastor Mike Abendroth joins us to discuss the incomparable love of God.

In the third segment, we look at a huge settlement imposed on a Wisconsin School District because they allegedly ‘discriminated” against the bathroom wishes of a self-identified transgender student.

Remembering Our Persecuted Family

We take so much for granted in America where our religious freedoms are concerned, and many of us can feel somewhat disconnected with our brothers and sisters in the Lord around the world. Being a committed disciple of Jesus Christ is an invitation to mocking and ridicule here in the states, but in many nations it is an invitation to persecution, imprisonment and even death. Despite Satan’s attempts to intimidate or silence Christians, the gospel is being preached in every nation and there are saints who remain committed to Christ.

How can we in America help our persecuted brethren? Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs joins us for an update. You absolutely must listen to his miraculous story in the first ten minutes of the interview about how God guided a donkey to bring Bibles to Christians by walking miles after crossing a very dangerous Syrian border.

Also, Tortured for Christ: the Movie, a very powerful film will be released March 5 at select theaters. This is a great challenge and reminder for true believers to serve Christ and to witness for Him no matter the cost.

The Overwhelming March Toward Globalism

People thought it was a joke when Donald Trump announced he would run – and most did not believe he could actually be elected President of the United States. But it happened, and no matter what you think of him, it is obvious he is driving the globalists and socialists into a frenzy. Their plans for a one world government are now being challenged by a man many didn’t see coming. He is challenging the status quo, the Democrats, the United Nations and the globalist elites at every turn; and he is doing the unthinkable in their eyes: supporting Israel.

Some will go to any extreme to try and derail or stop President Trump and things sure are heating up. The Bible is clear that a one world government under the influence of Satan and his puppet, the Antichrist, will one day rule mankind until Jesus returns. But just how close are we to that and can anything be done to slow down the inevitable?

Gary Kah of Hope For the World has studied globalism and one world religion movements for decades; he joins us with the latest news and informed, biblical perspective.
