There’s a ridiculous, often accepted rule of etiquette some people naively believe and live by: Christians should never discuss religion and politics in public. Many of those same people probably think the idea of a “Separation of Church and State” is found somewhere in the U.S. Constitution, but they are flat out wrong.

This verbal battering ram is used by the left in an attempt to silence Christians in particular. And if they can’t do that, they will hurl baseless accusations of hate and intolerance at us instead. Vice President Mike Pence sure can relate. We’ll get to a new book about his faith in a minute.

Freedom of speech has been under attack for decades as overzealous liberals and angry atheists try making their mark on the land of the free. Secularism is on the rise and the mocking of Christians is slowly becoming accepted in the public square. From Hollywood and the media to government and public education; to the ACLU and the intolerant Freedom From Religion Foundation, Christians are being forced into silence and told that their deeply held beliefs and biblical values are no longer appropriate and welcome.

We can thank God for people who are unashamed of the gospel, especially those representatives in Washington D.C. who are true Christians in the sense that they not only talk about faith in Christ, but walk by faith in their daily lives as well.

WHY MIKE PENCE?

Several books have been published about Vice President Mike Pence, but none have touched upon what may be the most fascinating aspect of our nation’s second in command: his deep faith.

The Faith of Mike Pence offers an intimate look at the man who calls himself “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.” Author Leslie Montgomery details Pence’s spiritual journey and examines how the vice president’s commitment to Christ has been a key component in his life as a husband, father, and public servant. The VP also looks for opportunities to talk about his faith and asks speechwriters to insert references to Scripture. Even his political enemies admit he is a man of integrity.

“Mike Pence wields enormous influence – perhaps more than any previous Vice President. Montgomery has been able to peer into the world view of the man who is a heart-beat away from becoming President and use that vantage to draw a lucid and insightful portrait of the man, his faith, and his vision for America. A must read for anyone interested in 21st century American politics.”David McIntosh, friend and former Indiana Legislator

In USA Today, –Maureen Groppe writes:

“A new book on how Pence’s evangelical faith shapes and guides the vice president is likely to both cheer those who appreciate his faith and worry those who don’t.… Is Pence a modern-day Queen Esther, serving Trump for “such a time as this”? Did he jump at the chance to be—like a Joseph or a Daniel—a godly influence on Trump? Is he like John, the “beloved apostle?” Or maybe he’s a “paintbrush in God’s hand” to help Trump do the right thing, as conservative activist Ken Blackwell describes it.”

The Faith of Mike Pence by Leslie Montgomery

Montgomery examines Pence’s encounters with politicos and evangelistic leaders such as James Dobson and Charles Lake. She shows the role of Pence’s faith in running for various offices, implementing faith-based initiatives, and responding to 9/11, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the infamous Anthrax scare in Congress that directly affected him.
