Francis Chan: Discerning or Guilty by Association?

The Bible is clear that there will be many false teachers leading people astray in the final years, and many professing Christians will be part of this final apostasy.  It also tells us we should avoid anyone who teaches a gospel contrary to the Bible’s teaching.  But Paul also tells us to bear with one another as believers; standing up for truth, but also not allowing insignificant divisions to cause problems.  The problem is that we are not always clear about what is a significant or insignificant division within Christianity.Francis Chan has been on a very interesting journey over the past few years.  He resigned as pastor of the mega-church he founded and went on a personal sabbatical.  He has returned and finds himself in a growing controversy surrounding his criticism of American Christianity as well as his recent appearances at IHOP and alongside Todd White and Benny Hinn. Really? So where does Chan really stand on doctrine? Mike, David, and Crash look at the controversy and discuss the difficulties in being discerning Christians without jumping to conclusions or branding those we disagree with a “heretic” or “apostate.”ARTICLES

The Failure of Christian Churches in America

Mike and Crash continue to look at how Christianity in America is failing, some would say collapsing. The clearest sign is how the secular culture is infiltrating the Church instead of the Church affecting the culture.

This morning, we look at the facade of church growth and how Christianity is increasingly irrelevant in America and even in the lives of many professing Christians.

In the first segment, Don Veinot of Midwest Christian Outreach joins us to discuss how a United Methodist Church in Chicago offered a strange Christmas celebration focusing on the Islamic account of the birth of Jesus from the Quran while ignoring the biblical account. We also look at how the Occult is subtly influencing how many professing Christians look at God.

The Real Cause Behind the Crisis at Willow Creek

When you are suffering from the flu, feverish with a soar throat and body aches, are these symptoms the cause of the flu or are they the effects of the flu? They are of course the effects of a virus (the true cause) that has invaded your body leading to physical illness and mild suffering. When you treat the cause you get to the root of the problem; but treating effects will not lead to a cure.

Why bring this up? It’s a key to understanding the latest crisis at Willow Creek Church. The sexual assault scandal involving former Pastor Bill Hybels and several women has led to the Elder Board announcing their resignation. A consulting team has been brought in for damage control and a reorganization plan—you know just like secular businesses and corporations do when facing an internal or PR crisis. But is the sexual scandal the cause of Willow Creek’s crisis or the effects? The fallout is an effect – and in segment 2 we will address the true cause.

In the first segment, Mike and David talk with Carl Teichrib about his upcoming book, “Game of Gods” where he did boots on the ground’ research at Burning Man festival. Carl documents the strange, popular movement combining earth worship, pagan rituals, anarchy and spiritual oneness—all under the guise of “radical tolerance.” And while it might be easy to dismiss what you will hear by calling 80,000 followers goofy nuts, could it be part of Satan’s master plan for the world to worship Anti-Christ?

Fabricating Jesus: Creating a god to Our Liking

Almost everyone believes or at least acknowledges that Jesus is a real person who once walked the earth. The historical evidence clearly points to that fact. And most will say that he was an influential man or good teacher.   Hundreds of millions, especially in America, claim they are Christians or claim to “believe in Him” as the means to salvation and eternal life.  But ask 100 people what they actually believe about His nature, word, and character and you might get 90 different answers.  Even within those who profess to be Christians you see a wide variety of opinions on the nature and character of the one who is Lord and Creator of all things.

Jesus warned His followers that false Christs would come and deceive many. If we are not diligent in the study of God’s Word we can easily be deceived by any of these false Christs. Today hundreds of millions follow a “false Christ” fabricated from a variety of ideas, sources and beliefs.

Tony Gurule of Ratio Christi Ministries has studied cults and false religions in great depth and joins us to discuss how people create a god to their liking (Fabricating Jesus) and believe in a false version of the one who died for our sins by taking the wrath of God against sin upon Himself.

Friday is Listener Comments & Questions Day

When we first come to saving faith in Jesus Christ we are on fire but still immature in the Christian faith. With the myriad of Christian teaching and television out there ranging from excellent all the way down to flat out heresy, how do we help new believers understand the difference between biblical truth and human error and deception? What should we say to a new believer who really enjoys listening to Joel Osteen for example?

This is one of your questions we will cover today. Other topics you want to discuss include:

The resignation and legacy of Pastor Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Church

The “13 reasons Why” documentary of teen suicide.

Mysticism and emergent theology creeping into churches.

Is the Pope right about atheists going to heaven if they have their children baptized?

Were the Founding Fathers just godless bigots and slave owners?

The Christian struggle with occasional sin and hypocrisy.

Questions, Comments, & Good Friday Reading

It’s Good Friday, the day we as Christians remember the painful sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God for our sins. The cross was the goal from the very beginning and His high priestly work was completed: mission accomplished! Our Savior and Lord overcame death and defeated the grave that we too might live forever with Him. Remember Him during this weekend in history. Hallelujah! Christ the Lord has risen!

Fridays are also the days when we answer your questions and read your comments on any topic. This week’s discussions include:

Should we give up on politics?

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Did You Ever Imagine These Things Could Happen?

The response to our Listener shows on Fridays where we talk about your questions and comments has been overwhelmingly positive! It’s been great hearing from so many Christians every week, but is has now reached the point where we have continually been unable to get to all of the comments in a one hour Friday show. This has been a consistent pattern over the last several months and we typically carry them over to the next week. So in our second segment today, we will take some additional time to read your comments and answer your questions.

First, we will listen to and discuss a thought-provoking message from Jan Markell of Understanding the Times Radio titled “I Never Thought I Would See the Day.” This program just aired over the weekend across the country. We’ll also share our thoughts on the events and happenings in our lifetime that have been disappointing or shocking.

Tomorrow we will continue with YOUR comments and questions about: Billy Graham, gun control, Christian marriages, transgenderism, the political divide, Roman Catholic “last rites,” and believers being unequally yoked – to mention a few!

Disproportionate Reaction to Religions

There is an interesting dichotomy when we look at how two major religions–Christianity and Islam–are increasingly perceived and treated in our nation.

Biblical Christianity calls on us to love all people, even those who are directly opposed to and violate God’s Word. Islam calls for punishment and even death to classes of people such as homosexuals or those who call themselves “transgender”.

Biblical Christianity teaches that men should honor and cherish their wives; Islam teaches that wives are more like property than cherished partners. They can be beaten or divorced on a whim.

So which of these religions should be the one feared by women and homosexuals? Islam. Yet it continues to get a pass with feminists, the radical homosexual movement and the media, while Christianity is framed as a religion of hate and bigotry. Which religion is being kicked out of schools and shouted down in public? Christianity, while Islam is promoted celebrated in public schools and feminist circles.

Elijah Abraham, a former Muslim and now Evangelist and apologist for biblical Christianity joins us this morning to discuss this contradiction from reality.

Leaving LDS; and Super Faith in Philadelphia

Does God care about football? Maybe not, but He does care about the hearts of men and women. He does care about those who are unashamed of the Gospel and who give Him glory in this life. It seems the Christian faith of many players on the Philadelphia Eagles is contagious, not just in their locker room, but outside the team as well. We’ll talk about some very encouraging stories of men who are boldly standing up for Jesus and trying to walk the talk.

Today’s guest is Dr. Corey Miller, PhD, is the President/CEO of Ratio Christi. While he grew up in Utah as a sixth generation Mormon, he came to Christ in 1988 and he has since been a youth and college pastor, a Bible college and university professor. He is co-author of the outstanding book, Leaving Mormonism: Why Four Scholars Changed their Minds. Ratio Christi is a global movement that equips university students and faculty to give historical, philosophical, and scientific reasons for following Jesus Christ.

Seeing the Big, Eternal Picture Around Us

So many distractions and obligations fill our time these days it is easy to fail to see the big picture when it comes to history, societies, and agendas being fulfilled all around us.

God has a plan for this world and every person. Jesus Christ will return one day to rule for eternity and judge the eternal souls of every human being, and nothing Satan does will thwart God’s plan. But that does not stop Satan from trying to deceive people by convincing them that we can plot our own future and eternity, apart from God’s will and plan. And with each passing year Satan is setting the stage for the rule of his puppet, anti-Christ, through complicit people and earthly systems.

Our guest today is Patrick Wood who has written books and developed resources to help people see the big picture. He is a born-again believer exposing the globalist movement and he shares some thoughts about what is happening to us both behind the scenes and right under our noses. Historically, the powerful and most influential have moved away from God, and he touches on the elitist Bilderberg group, Darwinism, Fabianism, Rockefellers, and the Trilateral Commission.

Pyrite Christianity in America

Pyrite is a mineral made up primarily of iron that looks like gold, thus it’s nickname of “fool’s gold.”  It looks like valuable gold but in reality, it is generally useless and of little to no value.

As America continues celebrating godlessness and too many members of churches fail to look significantly different than the secular culture taking over this nation. A growing number of churches and professing Christians are holding “fool’s gold” thinking it will save them when they stand before Jesus Christ as judge, only to find out what they hold is useless and even abhorrent before our Lord and Savior.

Elijah Abraham is a former Muslim and now born-again believer who travels around the world proclaiming the gospel, teaching pastors, and equipping believers who face constant threats of persecution.  He shares insights about what he has witnessed with believers here in America compared to churches in countries where persecution is often a way of life. Elijah points out the lack of maturity, discipleship, and sound doctrine in too many American churches.
